Aika Nagano's Exhibition: 'Natsu Rin'
LURF GALLERY is thrilled to announce the solo exhibition of artist Aika Nagano, titled
'Natsu Rin', which will be hosted on the gallery's first floor from
April 10 to May 17, 2026. Known for her innovative approach to traditional Japanese painting, Nagano is set to captivate visitors with artwork that transforms the concept of empty spaces into luminous expressions of light and atmosphere.
Exploring the World of Aika Nagano
Nagano's artistic journey is characterized by her focus on what has traditionally been referred to as the
'yohaku' or leftover space in Japanese art. Instead of an unutilized area, she perceives this space as filled with potential light, essentially redefining it as a foundational element of her work. In doing so, she creates an ethereal quality that transcends ordinary imagery and reflects the subtle interplay between light, air, and nature’s presence in everyday life.
The title of this exhibition,
'Natsu Rin', translates to the feeling of summer's approach—a poetic phrase that captures the nuances of seasonal transitions. Nagano’s new collection will invite viewers to reflect on the changes in familiar landscapes that are often overlooked, showcasing the delicate evolution of nature throughout different periods.

The Artist’s Statement
Nagano expresses her interpretation of the coming summer in her statement:
“During the grain rain season, the sensation of summer feels imminent. The gentle breeze carries the moist scent of fresh soil and greenery. You start to feel the transition of seasons, gently caressing your cheeks.”
This astute observation invites audiences to consider the subtle yet perceptible shifts in their everyday surroundings.
Through her work, she aims to capture instances where light wavers just enough to change familiar perspectives, insisting that each day presents a new opportunity to appreciate these minor changes. Her paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and reverence for nature’s cycles, as she continues to explore her surroundings with a delicate eye for transformation—a quest that viewers can share during this exhibition.
