New Gallery Exhibits Props from the Movie 'Mount Fuji, Coffee, and the Equation of Happiness'

Bunkyo Gakuin University Showcases Art from Movie

Bunkyo Gakuin University, led by President Tsutomu Fukui, has proudly opened a permanent gallery at the entrance of the D Building on its Hongo campus. This gallery exhibits actual art pieces and props used in the film 'Mount Fuji and Coffee and the Equation of Happiness'. The establishment of this gallery is a result of the university’s deep connection to the film, which is based on the work by the university's founder, Ishiko Shimada, titled 'Trust is Not Sold in Department Stores: A Woman’s Journey with Her Students'. The film holds particular significance for the university as it not only features scenes filmed on campus but also directly mentions its name within the narrative.

Through this gallery, the university aims to convey the connection between the film and the institution to visitors while providing a closer experience of the film's world for students and staff alike. The exhibits include stunning paintings of Mt. Fuji that enhance various scenes in the film, important illustrated letters tied to the story, materials related to the cast, the original book and its novelization, and props used during filming.

This initiative represents a unique educational and cultural endeavor by Bunkyo Gakuin University to incorporate cultural arts into the learning environment. For attendees who have already watched the film, the gallery serves as a chance to reminisce and reflect on their experiences, while also nurturing interest and creativity in those who are yet to engage with the narrative.
