CMA CGM Foundation and Salvation Army Unite to Provide 500K Meals
CMA CGM Foundation and Salvation Army Team Up to Tackle Food Insecurity
In an inspiring move to alleviate hunger in the United States, the CMA CGM Foundation has partnered with The Salvation Army to launch the "Giving Across North America" initiative. This ambitious program aims to distribute over 500,000 meals to families and individuals in five key cities: Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and Norfolk. The first phase of this initiative kicked off in November, perfectly timed to make an impact during the Thanksgiving season, when many families are in need of extra support.
A Seasonal Kickoff with a Purpose
The campaign began with well-organized meal distributions at Salvation Army centers across the designated cities. During these events, families and seniors received a variety of meals, including turkeys and festive food baskets. Organized by CMA CGM and supported by volunteers from American President Lines, this initiative reached approximately 5,000 individuals, enabling them to celebrate the holiday season with access to nutritious meals in their own homes.
George Goldman, President and CEO of CMA CGM (America), expressed the company's commitment to serve and uplift the communities they operate in during this season of gratitude. He acknowledged The Salvation Army’s partnership in this endeavor, emphasizing their shared belief in the importance of giving back to those in need. This partnership highlights the power of collating resources and efforts to create a lasting impact.
A Comprehensive Yearlong Campaign
The "Giving Across North America" initiative is not just a seasonal effort; it marks the beginning of a yearlong campaign to address food insecurity that will continue into 2025. The comprehensive strategy will consist of monthly food assistance programs, weekly food pantry services, and additional holiday distributions throughout the year. Such an approach ensures that families in these urban areas have access to vital resources on a continuous basis, rather than just during holiday seasons.
With anticipation of engaging up to 200 volunteers from the CMA CGM Group, the initiative aims to make a significant difference in these communities every month. By delivering over 500,000 meals nationwide, the CMA CGM Foundation is committed to battling food insecurity head-on and fostering a culture of giving within the regions they serve.
Commitment to Humanitarian Aid
Founded in 2005 and spearheaded by chair Tanya Saadé Zeenny, the CMA CGM Foundation addresses essential social needs through its dual focus: providing humanitarian aid and improving access to education. The Foundation utilizes CMA CGM Group’s expertise in transportation and logistics to deliver vital supplies in times of crisis, enabling them to transport over 43,000 tons of aid to 88 countries worldwide.
In addition to their humanitarian work, the CMA CGM Foundation actively supports over 550 educational projects globally and assists entrepreneurs through its social incubator, Le Phare. Their efforts illustrate a commitment not only to provide immediate relief but also to promote long-term empowerment through education and entrepreneurship.
This collaboration with The Salvation Army is a testament to the power of partnerships in addressing complex societal challenges like food insecurity. As the campaign unfolds, the CMA CGM Foundation and The Salvation Army aim to not only directly feed thousands but also inspire others to join the fight against hunger across North America.
