Huawei and China Telecom Win GSMA GLOMO Award for Youth Empowerment Innovation

Huawei and China Telecom Make a Difference

In a recent ceremony held at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, two of the leading tech giants, Huawei and China Telecom, were honored with the prestigious GSMA GLOMO award. This award recognized their innovative project aimed at improving the lives of children and youth. Specifically, they received accolades in the Tech4Good category for their groundbreaking initiative known as the Plan Qingjiao, which focuses on bridging educational gaps in rural China.

The Plan Qingjiao Initiative

Launched by the China Social Entrepreneurs Foundation (CSEF) in 2019, the Plan Qingjiao leverages China Telecom’s robust 5G network coupled with Huawei’s advanced WeLink platform. Together, they have crafted a resource-rich environment to support teacher training and provide vital educational resources to students in underprivileged rural areas. This initiative is a testament to the contribution of technology in fostering educational equity and accessibility.

According to Cui Yangyang, the director of Huawei’s TECH4ALL program, the initiative aligns seamlessly with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized how Plan Qingjiao significantly narrows the educational disparities between urban and rural settings. "It empowers the younger generation in remote areas with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s digital landscape,” said Cui.

To date, the Plan Qingjiao initiative has successfully trained nearly 180,000 young rural educators across China, impacting millions of students indirectly. In the Langcang County alone, approximately 600 primary and secondary teachers have benefited from the program, positively influencing around 5,000 students.

Recognition by Industry Leaders

The GLOMO jury, composed of over 200 independent experts from various sectors including analysts, journalists, and technology directors worldwide, lauded the initiative. They remarked on its impressive scale and its potential to benefit a vast number of young learners. The jury noted that the combination of connectivity and teacher resources makes the Plan Qingjiao a comprehensive solution to educational challenges.

Collaborative Efforts in the Initiative

CSEF’s Role

Supported by the government, the CSEF plays a crucial role in identifying outstanding teachers from across China. These educators share their experiences online, providing educational resources that enhance the skills of rural teachers and improve student outcomes.

Huawei’s Contribution

As part of its TECH4ALL digital inclusion initiative, Huawei's WeLink platform serves as an interactive online teaching tool that connects schools, students, and educators. This means that students in resource-limited rural areas can attend multimedia remote classes, receiving the same quality of education offered to their urban counterparts.

China Telecom’s Infrastructure Support

In this collaboration, China Telecom provides essential 5G and optical network infrastructure, ensuring reliable nationwide connectivity in rural regions. By integrating both 5G and Wi-Fi networks, they simplify mobile and fixed-network terminal management, facilitating seamless connectivity for users in these areas.

Furthermore, this year, Huawei’s Skills on Wheels campaign, another component of the TECH4ALL initiative, was nominated for the 'Marketing for Good' category, further highlighting the company’s commitment to positive social impact through technology.

The Future of Digital Inclusivity

The TECH4ALL initiative represents Huawei's long-term vision for digital inclusion, driven by innovative technologies and partnerships aimed at creating an inclusive and sustainable digital world. With ongoing projects like Plan Qingjiao, Huawei and China Telecom are paving the way for future advancements in educational access and equity. As the world becomes increasingly digital, such initiatives are vital in ensuring that no child is left behind.
