KT&G Achieves Historic Q3 Revenue and Profit Milestone, Announces Ambitious Shareholder Return Strategy

KT&G's Record-Breaking Q3 Performance and Future Plans

KT&G, one of South Korea's leading tobacco and health functional food companies, has announced outstanding results for the third quarter of 2026. During the earnings presentation held on November 5, the firm revealed consolidated revenue of KRW 1.9052 trillion, marking a 4.3% increase year-over-year. Additionally, operating profits surged by 13.9% to settle at KRW 530.1 billion. These impressive figures not only represent a milestone for the company's financial health but also underscore its strategic focus on profitability and growth.

The company’s cigarette division was notably robust, achieving a quarterly revenue of KRW 1.3065 trillion, up 6.0% compared to the previous year and operating profits of KRW 425.5 billion—an increase of 14.4%. This resulted in an operating margin of 32.6%, reflecting a 2.4 percentage point improvement year-over-year. This sustained growth trajectory is significant as it marks the tenth consecutive quarter of simultaneous growth in sales volume, revenue, and operating profit within the global cigarette sector, setting unprecedented records in both sales volume and revenue.

A key driver behind these results is KT&G’s Next Generation Products (NGP) segment, which played a crucial role in maintaining the company’s leading market share in Korea while refining the pricing mix for its products. Paralleling this success, KGC, the firm’s health functional foods subsidiary, reported sales of KRW 372.2 billion with a 3.4% year-on-year growth and operating profits of KRW 80.1 billion—a 12.2% increase.

Ambitious Shareholder Return Plan

During the Capital Markets Day presentation, KT&G’s CEO, Bang Kyung-man, articulated an ambitious mid- to long-term shareholder return strategy. For 2026, the company intends to increase its annual dividend to KRW 8,000 per share, reflecting a substantial 33.3% increase from the previous dividend of KRW 6,000. The firm aims to enhance its dividend payout ratio from approximately 60% to at least 75% by 2030. Moreover, the company plans to repurchase and cancel KRW 1.2 trillion worth of shares over the next four years, establishing a comprehensive shareholder return package of KRW 5 trillion, which may be supplemented with additional special initiatives if deemed necessary to enhance shareholder value.

Strategic Business Outlook

Looking forward, KT&G outlined its strategic vision for 2026 and beyond, projecting total group revenue to reach KRW 7 trillion and operating profit of KRW 1.5 trillion. The firm plans to solidify its market position by expanding its footprint in international markets, particularly for its global cigarette brands, NGP, and health functional foods. Key strategies will include implementing price adjustments and refining product mixes to include more premium offerings in the global cigarette sector.

KT&G aims to leverage its flagship brands, such as ESSE, to pursue growth opportunities across over 30 untapped markets. The company plans to enhance its control over pricing and product strategies through local subsidiaries, thereby optimizing its global production network. Recently, they completed the construction of a new factory in Indonesia to support these expansion efforts, anticipating substantial cost savings of approximately KRW 550 billion over the next four years.

In the NGP sector, the company will expedite its global expansion of heat-not-burn (HNB) products, while continuing to foster existing international partnerships. Notably, it plans to penetrate approximately 70 countries by 2030, including the lucrative U.S. market for nicotine pouches, with its recent acquisition of LOOP, a well-established brand in that space.

Additionally, KGC plans to increase its share of global revenue by broadening its red ginseng ingredient business and collaborating with international firms in the food, beverage, and beauty industries to explore new product development possibilities.

Conclusion

KT&G is firmly positioned to leverage its significant growth initiatives, advancing its shareholder value proposition through strategic investments and profitability-centric growth. By augmenting its three key pillars—global cigarettes, NGP, and health functional foods—the company aims to achieve sustainable growth while aligning itself with top-tier shareholder return standards internationally. The combination of record financial performance and a robust strategic framework sets a promising trajectory for KT&G as it navigates the future of its business operations.
