Panasonic Automotive Systems Group Achieves SBTi Validation for Emission Reduction Goals

Panasonic Automotive Systems Group Secures SBTi Validation for Emission Reduction

The Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd., headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, is making significant strides in environmental sustainability by officially securing validation for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This initiative is part of a global effort to curtail the devastating effects of climate change and aligns with the ambitious goals set forth in the Paris Agreement, particularly the commitment to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Validation Achieved

On September 8, 2026, the Group, led by President Masashi Nagayasu, announced that its GHG emissions reduction strategies were validated. These strategies, categorized by short-term and long-term objectives, are aimed at creating a more sustainable future.

Short-Term Targets:
- Scope 1 and 2: A targeted reduction of GHG emissions by 63% by fiscal year 2035, set against a baseline year of fiscal year 2024.
- Scope 2: A commitment to achieving 100% renewable electricity sourcing by fiscal year 2030, with maintenance of this level through fiscal year 2035.
- Scope 3: An aim to reduce certain emissions (Category 1 and Category 11) by 37.5% by fiscal year 2035, compared to fiscal year 2024 levels.

Long-Term Goals:
- Scope 1 and 2: An ambitious reduction target aiming for a 90% decrease in GHG emissions by fiscal year 2050 based on a fiscal year 2024 benchmark.
- Scope 3: Similar to the short-term targets, a 90% reduction is also planned for Category 1 and Category 11 GHG emissions by fiscal year 2050.
- Net-Zero Target: The Group is working towards achieving net-zero GHG emissions across all operational scopes (1, 2, and 3) by fiscal year 2050.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Panasonic views climate change as a critical management issue; therefore, it prioritizes continuous energy conservation efforts while increasing the use of renewable resources across its operations. Notably, since 2023, the Group has maintained net-zero CO2 emissions at its major facilities worldwide. To support the newly validated targets, Panasonic will amplify its energy-saving initiatives and further its adoption of renewable energy sources. Additionally, the company plans to diversify and enhance its portfolio of low-carbon products and services while fostering strong partnerships with suppliers.

As part of its global corporate vision, Panasonic Automotive Systems aims to align its operational practices with sustainable principles, thereby contributing to the establishment of a sustainable mobility society. The SBTi, which operates under the stewardship of several influential organizations like the CDP and the United Nations Global Compact, encourages businesses to implement science-based emissions reduction targets to support the overarching aims of the Paris Agreement.

The Future Ahead

Looking toward the future, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. is also gearing up for a significant rebranding. The company plans to change its name to Mobitera Inc. effective April 1, 2027, as part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. This rebranding aims to enhance its identity in the automotive market and across global platforms. In summary, Panasonic's bold move towards sustainability exemplifies its proactive stance in combating climate change, strengthening its position as a leader in the automotive sector that prioritizes a sustainable future for all.
