ONEOR8's Upcoming Play: 'Colt Gabaments'

ONEOR8, an innovative Japanese theater company, has officially announced the premiere of its latest B-side performance, 'Colt Gabaments', scheduled to run from October 9 to October 12, 2025, at Studio Akutore in Nakano, Tokyo. This exciting production marks a departure from their traditional A-side performances, designed to showcase unique works that differ significantly from the main repertoire.

Tickets for 'Colt Gabaments' will be available for purchase starting at noon on September 1, 2025, through Confetti, managed by Long Run Planning Co., Ltd., located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Pricing will be ¥4,000 for advance purchases and ¥4,500 on the day of the performance.

A Journey Through Time

'Colt Gabaments' is a revival of a play first staged by the company in 2007 at the Yurakucho Imagination Studio. The original script, penned by the acclaimed playwright Takahiro Tamura, has seen numerous adaptations since its inception, receiving significant updates over the years that reflect the contemporary artistic atmosphere. For this new iteration, Tamura has teamed up with four promising young actors who encountered their craft together in the 2024 performance of 'Kare Kare, Koko Kara'. This ensemble includes talents such as Tomoya Ooshiro, Ottuhata, Kazuya Butsu, and Rentaro Yamashina.

Adding to the excitement is the newly appointed young director Junya Hirata, who made waves by winning a distinguished award at the 2024 Young Directors Competition. His vision promises to infuse the production with vitality and fresh creativity. Hirata expressed immense enthusiasm about the project, stating that the rehearsal space is already filled with laughter and anticipation.

Greetings, I’m Junya Hirata. Realizing that I wasn’t even born when ONEOR8 was established in the late 90s, receiving the opportunity to direct such a significant work left me stunned. Initially, I felt an urge to run away, but delving into Tamura’s script made me eager to visualize its powerful moments on stage. This narrative—the trials shared with childhood friends, the evolution from child to adult, and first-hand observations of societal changes—promises to be both sparkling and raw.

I look forward to presenting a piece that gently encourages those who’ve lived through the passage of time and resonates with audiences of my generation.
