The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is gearing up for its 28th edition, scheduled to captivate cinema enthusiasts from June 12 to 21, 2026. A Promising Start with "China Film Night"


On February 13, 2026, a promotional event named "China Film Night" was successfully held in Berlin as the festival kicked off its international outreach efforts. This event was a vibrant showcase of the festival's commitment to creating an inclusive arena for filmmakers and audiences worldwide. Chen Guo, Managing Director of the Shanghai International Film & TV Events Center, took the opportunity to announce the festival’s dates, exciting attendees about the upcoming cinematic festivities.

With last year's edition recording an astounding 3,900 submissions from 119 nations, SIFF has established itself as a significant player in the global film festival landscape. Remarkably, 77% of the nominations for the esteemed Golden Goblet Award were world premieres—reinforcing the festival’s objective to spotlight fresh talent and innovative storytelling.

Film Fest Facts and Figures


In 2025, 410 films were screened, alongside nearly 100 audience engagement opportunities, drawing close to half a million attendees. Additionally, a noteworthy outcome was that nearly 20 films managed to secure theatrical releases in China. This essential festival not only highlights cinematic advancements but also redefines the business of film through its upgraded International Film & TV Market. This section has grown into a focal point for industry networking and content trading, showcasing 200 international exhibitors and over 50 industry events, including forums and project pitches.

What to Expect in 2026


Looking forward to the 28th SIFF, Chen Guo expressed eagerness to welcome friends from all over the world to experience the magic of cinema together in Shanghai. Running until the end of March, submissions for the Golden Goblet Awards across various categories—including Main Competition, Asian New Talent, Documentary, Animation, and Short Film—are still open. The festival has also launched its booth applications for the International Film & TV Market, providing early bird discounts for participants who apply before the deadline.
