Northgate González Market's Remarkable Donation to Aid Wildfire Victims
In light of the catastrophic wildfires that struck Eaton Canyon and the Pacific Palisades, Northgate González Market has stepped up to support the Latino community, which is a vital segment of Los Angeles County's population. Many individuals, from day laborers to restaurant employees and nannies, have experienced the devastating consequences of these recent disasters.
With an impressive total of
$239,425, the grocery chain has made a substantial donation to
Alma Family Services and
CHIRLA (the Coalition for Humane Immigration Rights), providing essential assistance to families and laborers impacted by the fires.
Through its initiative titled
'Unidos Por Nuestra Comunidad', Northgate Market engaged its customers at 44 stores throughout Southern California, encouraging them to round up their purchases in support of those affected by the wildfires. This community-driven campaign successfully raised
$139,425, which Northgate Market then matched with an additional
$100,000. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a remarkable donation of
$239,425 aimed toward wildfire victims.
During a heartfelt luncheon at their corporate headquarters in Anaheim, Northgate Market's owners personally presented large checks to both Alma Family Services and CHIRLA, marking a moment of solidarity and compassion. Miguel González, Co-President of Northgate González Market, expressed the company's ethos, stating, "Our commitment to community goes beyond the walls of our stores—it's woven into the fabric of who we are. When our neighbors are facing hardship, we stand together as one family. We are incredibly proud of the compassion shown by both our associates and customers, whose generosity has made this donation possible."
Leaders from the beneficiary organizations also expressed their gratitude. Anabella Bastida from CHIRLA remarked, "We thank Northgate Gonzalez Markets for their generosity and for supporting CHIRLA's iRelief Fund to help provide immediate assistance to some of the most vulnerable families who were impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles."
Lourdes Caracoza, President/CEO of Alma Family Services, added, "We are profoundly grateful to the González family and Northgate González Market for their exceptional generosity and leadership in standing with our community. Their unwavering commitment comes at a crucial time, reinforcing our ongoing efforts to provide relief and vital resources to families impacted by the wildfires."
Alongside fundraising, Northgate Market collaborated with
Los Angeles County Supervisors and local
Red Cross shelters, delivering tamales, pan dulce, groceries, hygiene kits, and water to those displaced by the wildfires. This outreach demonstrates Northgate's holistic approach to aid their community during times of crisis.
