A Celebration of Art at Mayfaire by-the-Lake

Every year, the picturesque shores of Lake Morton transform into a vibrant hub for art enthusiasts, and this year marks a special milestone: the 54th annual Mayfaire by-the-Lake. Hosted by the prestigious Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art at Florida Southern College, the festival not only highlights the creativity of talented artists but also serves as a cherished community tradition that many look forward to each Mother's Day Weekend.

The upcoming festival will run from May 9 to May 10, allowing attendees to explore artist booths from 9 am to 4 pm on both days. Entry is free, embracing an enduring mission to make the arts accessible to all. With this approach, the venue continues to attract a diverse crowd, celebrating creativity, community, and culture.

This year’s festival promises excitement with over 150 artists in attendance, including 50 newcomers and 16 traveling from outside the state. Artists will showcase their work across various mediums against the stunning backdrop of Lake Morton. Festival-goers can expect an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary art, perfect for those looking to appreciate or purchase unique pieces.

Foodies will also find joy at the festival as various food trucks will be present, offering a delightful array of culinary treats to savor while enjoying the festivities. In addition, hands-on activities for children are planned, ensuring fun for attendees of every age. This inclusive atmosphere reinforces the event's role as a gathering space for families, friends, and art lovers alike.

The weekend will kick off with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 am on Saturday, marking the festival's much-awaited opening. The excitement builds as the festival wraps up with an awards ceremony on Sunday at 2 pm, honoring some of the most outstanding artists present at the exhibition.

Dr. Daryl Ward, the Executive Director of the Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art, expresses his sentiments about the festival: “Mayfaire by-the-Lake is more than just an art festival; it’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the natural beauty of Lakeland.” His words resonate with the essence of this event, which continues to thrive on the collaboration of returning and new artists, and thousands of visitors who cherish vibrant artistic expressions.
