Exploring the Surreal: The Art and Mystery of Nyanpo Thief Exhibition

Nyanpo Thief -Melting Museum of Fantasy-

Starting May 14, 2026, Ikebukuro will host a captivating art event called 'Nyanpo Thief -Melting Museum of Fantasy-.' Put together by the C-DEPOT artist collective, the exhibition celebrates the theme of Surrealism, with 20 artists contributing their unique pieces. This innovative event merges art appreciation with a mystery-solving experience, allowing visitors to engage with art in an interactive and diverse manner.

A Unique Blend of Art and Games

This art exhibition represents a part of the 'Ikebukuro Montparnasse Circulating Art Museum,' which aims to revitalize the local community through artistic endeavors. The concept brings together the visual experience of Surrealism—characterized by dream-like imagery and irrational juxtapositions—and the thrill of a treasure hunt.

Inspired by the masters of Surrealism such as Salvador Dalí and René Magritte, the artists at C-DEPOT crafted homage pieces that highlight the whimsical and bizarre nature of the movement. Visitors are encouraged to explore the venue while solving puzzles, providing a dynamic way to appreciate art and learn more about the Surrealist movement.

Fun for Everyone

The event is free and accessible to all, allowing participants to collect a guidebook upon entering to aid in their exploration. This guidebook will lead them to various artworks scattered throughout the venue, challenging their deductions and creativity. Those who successfully complete the mysteries will receive a prize at a later date.

The event is held in two locations: the 'Tokyo Arts Theater' and 'WACCA Ikebukuro,' each presenting different challenges and themes for the riddles. At the Tokyo Arts Theater, guests aim to unravel the mysteries of the melting crime scene, while at WACCA, they’ll tackle individual puzzles tied to specific artworks.
