Tencent's Weixin Brand Protection Report Celebrates Ten Years of Innovation and Trust in IP Rights Management

Celebrating a Decade of Weixin Brand Protection

In a significant milestone, Tencent unveiled its 2025 Weixin Brand Protection Report, commemorating ten years of essential strides in the realm of intellectual property (IP) protection on the Weixin platform. Throughout this decade, Weixin's Brand Protection Platform (BPP) has been at the forefront of ensuring brand integrity through innovative enforcement techniques and collaborative efforts.

The report reveals how Weixin has transitioned from reactive measures to a more proactive approach in combating infringement, showcasing impressive metrics achieved in 2025. This year marked a staggering 5.7 times increase in the proactive shutdown of livestream rooms and the recovery of over $430 million in enforcement value. The platform now serves more than 700 brands across 30 industries and 20 regions, demonstrating the expansive reach and influence of Weixin in the global marketplace.

Key Achievements in 2025

1. Infringing Listings Addressed: The BPP successfully removed 728,000 infringing listings.
2. Suspicious Activities Stopped: A total of 232,000 suspicious product listings were blocked, along with 14,000 dubious store applications.
3. New Partnerships: In this notable expansion, 14 new publishing partners joined the BPP, enhancing its collaborative efforts in IP enforcement.

Danny Marti, Tencent's Head of Global Public Policy, emphasized the collaborative nature of the Weixin platform: “Weixin has built a truly collaborative IP-protection ecosystem that unites authorities, brands, and users.” This triadic partnership is essential in fostering a reliable environment for brands to engage with consumers confidently.

As we navigate through the complexities of online commerce, Weixin connects online detection methodologies with tangible offline enforcement, thereby bridging the gap between digital monitoring and real-world justice against counterfeit operations. In recent years, the BPP empowered enforcement agencies to pursue legal action in 37 cases involving over 300 suspects and valuable goods totaling more than $430 million.

Strengthening the Brand Protection Ecosystem

The BPP's growth trajectory is remarkable, having expanded by over 50% since 2021. This success is attributed to the seamless integration of technology with user participation. The BPP has increasingly become reliant on user reports, with over 95% of takedown notices originating from vigilant users. In addition, the introduction of AI-driven tools has played a pivotal role in enhancing user engagement.

In late 2025, Weixin unveiled 'Mini-WA', a smart assistant that provides brands with immediate support and vital insights for better governance of their IP rights. This proactive tool is an exemplary model of how AI can streamline compliance and enhance risk detection in today's digital landscape.

As digital commerce and short-form content continue to rise, Weixin’s BPP stands as a paragon of integrated IP protection. The platform not only safeguards brands but also instills confidence among consumers, warranting trust both online and offline.

The recent report encourages stakeholders in the brand protection ecosystem to adopt such a collaborative framework—that merges technology, user engagement, and partnership with brands in fortifying IP rights. For brands like PUMA, protecting intellectual property is crucial for maintaining brand integrity while ensuring sustainable business practices in a volatile landscape.
