A Bold Reimagining of Tezuka's Classic: Search and Destroy Nominated for Awards

A Bold New Take on Tezuka's Masterpiece: Search and Destroy

Kaneko Atsushi, a talented manga artist, has skillfully reimagined the timeless classic 'Dororo' by the legendary Osamu Tezuka in his newest work titled 'Search and Destroy'. Originally published to commemorate Tezuka's 90th birthday by Micro Magazine in Tokyo, this adaptation has recently achieved notable recognition by being nominated for the Best Long Form category at the prestigious American Manga Awards, following its earlier acclaim with an Eisner Award nomination.

A Synopsis of 'Search and Destroy'

Set against the backdrop of a post-civil war era, 'Search and Destroy' introduces us to a world teeming with creatures—robots produced en masse to serve as soldiers and workers. These beings roam the streets, caught between their existence and the society from which they have sprung, often at odds with civilians.

The story centers around a young orphan named Dro, who finds himself in a dire situation. One fateful evening, while attempting to steal, he is captured by a Yakuza creature. Just when hope seems lost, a mysterious girl appears before him, her identity ambiguous as she blurs the lines between human and creature. Clad in the fur of beasts and driven by fierce anger, she launches a surprise attack on the gang’s leader, Kiku. Her mechanical limbs are outfitted with incredibly powerful weapons, setting the stage for an explosive confrontation.

The series draws heavily from the original themes of 'Dororo', intertwining them within a sci-fi lens that offers a fresh perspective while preserving the core emotions and conflicts of the characters. The brilliant art style of Kaneko Atsushi enhances the dramatic narratives and action-packed sequences.
