Hilco Global, a diversified financial services company, has recently made headlines with the appointment of Shana Thomas as their Chief Compliance Officer. This strategic move underscores the firm’s commitment to strengthening its compliance framework as it continues to expand its international operations.
In her new role, Shana will report directly to Dan Ronnen, the Senior Managing Director and Deputy General Counsel of ORIX Corporation USA. Shana's responsibilities will involve leading Hilco Global's compliance function, focusing on regulatory affairs, privacy issues, ethics, and governance across both U.S. and international segments of the firm. Working collaboratively with leaders across Hilco and ORIX USA, she will align the company's compliance initiatives with broader governance strategies.
Shana’s impressive career spans various industries, and she boasts extensive experience in compliance and governance within multinational organizations. Prior to joining Hilco Global, she held senior leadership positions at Arthur J. Gallagher, where she served as the Senior Director for Global Compliance. In this role, she pioneered global compliance teams and established a center of excellence in India, significantly enhancing Sarbanes-Oxley and risk management audit processes.
Her career trajectory includes significant roles at prominent companies such as Astellas Pharmaceuticals, Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, and KPMG in South Africa. Shana's academic credentials are equally impressive: she earned her Master of Science in Legal Studies from Cornell Law School and holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Rhodes University, South Africa. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). In addition, her leadership qualities have been recognized through her selection for Santa Clara University's Global Women Leaders program.
"Shana brings deep global experience in compliance and operational risk management to the table," stated Dan Ronnen. "Her leadership will be crucial as we enhance our compliance infrastructure and support our growth alongside ORIX USA's extensive network."
The responsibilities of her new position will involve overseeing the global regulatory and licensing framework, as well as initiatives concerning anti-bribery and corruption compliance, anti-money laundering (AML), conflict management, third-party risk management, and cybersecurity compliance.
