SPIRAL CHARIOTS' 36th Performance in 2026

Celebrating its 23rd anniversary, the renowned theater group SPIRAL CHARIOTS is thrilled to announce its upcoming performance, "小劇場、殺陣は壱対壱のみ。" (Only One-on-One Sword Fighting in the Small Theater). This exciting production is slated to take place from July 9th to July 13th, 2026, at the intimate Shimokitazawa Theater Paradise in Setagaya, Tokyo, where the audience can witness electrifying swordplay up close.

Tickets for the show will become available starting May 30th at 10:00 AM, through Confetti, operated by Long Run Planning Co., Ltd., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

A Dedication to Challenge and Innovation

SPIRAL CHARIOTS, formed in 2004 by Seiji Hattori, Hiroshi Nakane, and Tomohiko Shishido, has always been a troupe that embraces challenges. With each performance, the group strives to bring something new and experimental to the stage, and this show is no different. For this performance, they are venturing into dynamic sword fighting, promising an interactive experience full of intense moments right in front of the audience.

Synopsis of the Play

The story unfolds in 1661 AD in Edo, during a time of political transition from military to civil rule. As the power of the samurai diminishes, the government emphasizes education and law, leading to a pivotal moment in history.

An edict from the shogunate commands that each region must select a representative warrior to compete in a duel that will determine the strongest samurai. Eight warriors will gather at the dueling ground in Edo to battle it out, with the promise that the winner's region will forever honor the samurai way.

The core members of the company also include Takuma Endo, Masahiro Komatsuzaki, and Takahiro Saito, who contribute to the group's diverse and dynamic performances. Seiji Hattori, the head of SPIRAL CHARIOTS, also takes on the role of playwright and director.

Special features include a two-shot photo opportunity after each performance, as well as a curtain call photo session. Note that doors open 30 minutes prior to every show.
