Data centers are known for their substantial energy consumption, projected to reach approximately 580 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity by 2028 in the U.S. This surge arises as cloud computing becomes integral in servicing the booming demand for AI applications. The reports suggest that geothermal energy is capable of fulfilling up to 64% of this projected growth in the data center energy landscape. Furthermore, in 13 out of the 15 largest data center markets, geothermal energy could address 100% of the anticipated demand growth if facilities are strategically located near the richest geothermal resources.
