This summer, the Haishou Theater is thrilled to announce the revival of the acclaimed play "Golden Age," originally penned by Australian playwright Louis Nowra. The performance will take place from August 6 to August 12, 2026, at the Theater Green BOX in BOX THEATER located in Toshima, Tokyo. A Powerful Story of Love and Isolation

Set against the backdrop of the eve of World War II, this riveting production explores the lives of individuals isolated from society, alongside the stark contrasts faced by modern Australians. At its core, "Golden Age" portrays the intense and unwavering love between a daughter of an isolated community and a young man from the outside world. The narrative weaves together themes of empathy for the vulnerable and coexistence with diverse cultures, a stark commentary relevant to contemporary Japan.

The play initially faced interruption in July 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the few performances that did occur received significant acclaim from audiences, prompting calls for a revival. Now, with an upgraded setting and new stage dynamics, the team aims to deliver an even more powerful experience this time around.

Stellar Directing and a New Star Cast

Once again at the helm is the esteemed director Hibiki Ogasawara, who has previously received the Yomiuri Theater Award for Outstanding Direction. He will be joined by the renowned actor Makoto Nagai, marking a significant addition to the cast. The production will feature a combination of both returning and new talents, setting the stage for an extraordinary performance.
