China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week 2025 Kicks Off in Guizhou, Fostering Educational Ties

The 2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week Held in Guizhou

On July 26, 2025, the bustling city of Guiyang, located in the heart of Guizhou province, hosted the opening ceremony for the much-anticipated 2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW). This gathering of educators, officials, and students marks a continued commitment to fostering educational exchanges between China and ASEAN nations.

A Platform for Progress

The 2025 CAECW, running from July 24 to 27, is thematic in nature, built around the concept of "Smart Education Empowering People-to-People Exchanges, Educational Cooperation Enhancing Common Development." Attendees are engaged in a myriad of activities aimed at demonstrating the successes achieved through cultural interactions and educational cooperation between China and the ASEAN countries.

The event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the People's Government of Guizhou Province, showcasing the collaborative spirit that drives education as a tool for diplomacy and development.

Expanding Horizons

This year’s CAECW is not just an event; it signifies an evolution in educational collaboration, attracting participation from a wide array of ASEAN countries and partners along the Belt and Road Initiative. The agenda comprises an impressive array of 116 activities, including 19 dedicated events that launched during the opening period. The initiative plans to host about 97 more activities throughout the remainder of the year.

An emphasis is placed on creating impactful agreements, with over 60 expected signings, the establishment of eight joint overseas colleges or research institutes, and six new internship and training bases. An exciting prospect of this cooperation is the anticipated arrival of 1,100 international youths visiting Guizhou for study tours and exchanges, enriching their understanding and appreciation of the region’s educational landscape.

People-to-People Connections

As the only official intergovernmental framework dedicated to education exchanges, CAECW has become a vital link enhancing the relationship between China and ASEAN. The event has historically promoted faculty and student exchanges, youth dialogue activities, and cultural immersion programs—facilitating a strong connection among the younger generation of both regions.

Ultimately, this initiative is not merely about education; it is about building friendship and mutual understanding between countries. By bringing together young minds from diverse backgrounds, CAECW strengthens the foundation for long-term cooperation and trust among nations.

Future Directions

In the coming years, CAECW aims to maintain its principles of openness, inclusivity, and win-win cooperation. The goal is to closely align future initiatives with regional development trends and adapt to the evolving educational needs of young talents. The focus will remain on expanding cooperation areas and pursuing innovative "Education+" models—integrating education with culture, tourism, sports, scientific innovation, industry, business, and trade.

As CAECW progresses, it seeks to escalate its influence and effectiveness in creating a more interconnected and resilient China-ASEAN community. Reflecting on the valuable experiences of the past editions, the commitment to building a shared future remains steadfast. The overarching ambition is to enrich educational collaboration while ensuring that relationships between the regions are stronger than ever.

In conclusion, the 2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week is not just an event—it's a commitment to the shared future of education, culture, and collaboration, paving the way for improved relations and mutual growth between China and the ASEAN nations.
