The Theatrical Play 'Farm Hall' Illuminates Scientists' Struggles in Atomic Bomb Development

The Impactful Play 'Farm Hall'

The highly anticipated play 'Farm Hall' will make its debut in Japan from June 15 to June 30, 2026, at the Actor's Studio in Roppongi, Tokyo. This work, penned by the British playwright Catherine Moore, draws upon the historical testimonies of scientists involved in the development of the atomic bomb, highlighting the moral quandaries they faced.

As a poignant exploration of the intersection between science and ethics, 'Farm Hall' questions what occurs when advancements that propel humanity forward become entwined with political motives. The narrative unveils the scientists' sense of duty and their internal conflicts, leading to an unprecedented tragedy. Each character’s journey paints a vivid picture of the era and the heavy responsibilities they bore.

The direction is led by the acclaimed Takushi Manabe, a figure lauded for his insightful and meticulous staging that taps into the silenced voices of history. His approach aims to resonate with the present audience, challenging them not merely to recall past events but to engage with the moral implications relevant today.

The cast includes talented actors such as Yoshio Kato, Hiroshi Kawachi, Fumito Shimura, Jun Saito, Go Yagyu, and Takayuki Nonoyama. Together, they will bring to life the emotional weight of the narrative and engage viewers in a reflective conversation on humanity’s past and future.
