New Insights in Human Resource Development
The Human Resource Development magazine "Learning Design" has just released its September-October 2025 issue, now available online for members of the "Learning Design Members" program. Published by the Japan Management Association Management Center (JMAM), this edition focuses on the theme of supporting the labor force that entered the job market during Japan's employment ice age, categorized from the early 1990s to 2005.
Special Feature: Supporting Job-Seeking Generations
This special feature addresses the challenges faced by the so-called "employment ice age generations," those who struggled to find jobs in a severely depressed market post-bubble economy. Many from this demographic were forced into non-regular employment, and even those who secured positions often faced reduced educational and growth opportunities. With the persistent struggles of this cohort, their potential for employee productivity in the current labor shortage era remains untapped.
In this issue, thought leaders and case studies explore the necessary support structures and developmental strategies to empower this generation effectively within organizations.
New Series: HR Philosophy
Another highlight of this edition is the launch of a new series titled "HR Philosophy", which proposes that philosophical thought may serve as a foundational framework for making decisions in human resources. The first installment features a dialogue between Kuniyoshi Tsuboya, CEO of the company Chukuten, and Hiroaki Shinagawa, a personality from 'Japan's Funniest Philosophy Radio' and a former lawyer. They delve into five useful thinking strategies that can aid in HR decision-making. This six-part series will offer fresh philosophical perspectives for HR practitioners.
