DIPRA Appoints Stephen A. Marcino as New Northeastern Regional Engineer to Enhance Water Utility Solutions
The Ductile Iron Pipe Research Association (DIPRA) has taken a significant step in enhancing its regional capabilities by appointing Stephen A. Marcino, P.E., MBA, as the Northeastern Regional Engineer. This role is pivotal as it involves collaborating with water and wastewater utilities from Maryland to Maine. Marcino is expected to focus on the effective application and specification of Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP), which is recognized for its reliability and long-lasting performance in water infrastructure.
Marcino's extensive background in water utility management spans nearly three decades, making him an asset to DIPRA. His role mainly entails offering strategic guidance, given that water utilities are currently facing challenges in providing sustainable and safe drinking water solutions. David Cole, President of DIPRA, emphasized the importance of Marcino's advanced technical knowledge and innovative mindset, which are crucial when navigating the complexities of water infrastructure. This appointment aligns with DIPRA's mission to ensure that utilities can deliver safe, clean, and reliable water for future generations, utilizing Ductile Iron as a superior material for pipeline construction.
Prior to joining DIPRA, Marcino held the position of Director of Water Solutions at Bentley Systems, where he played a vital role in spearheading global teams to improve digital delivery methods in water and wastewater projects. His leadership led to significant advancements, such as enhanced project efficiency by up to 35% through the implementation of 3D/4D modeling and digital twin technologies. These innovations not only optimized project workflows but also yielded measurable returns on investment for clients, showcasing the potential of integrating digital tools in traditional engineering practices.
Marcino has also held senior roles at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, American Water, and Black & Veatch, where he managed projects focusing on design, construction, operations, and compliance in the water sector. His wealth of experience spans across various initiatives, from treatment plant design to pipeline installation, equipping him with a well-rounded perspective to contribute to DIPRA's ongoing mission and the advancement of water infrastructure.
Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Marcino stated, "I am excited to join DIPRA as the Northeastern Regional Engineer.
