Gotion Unveils Africa's Largest AC-Coupled Energy Storage Project

On September 28, Gotion made headlines by launching the global delivery of Africa's largest AC-coupled energy storage project. This ambitious initiative reflects the growing efforts toward renewable energy infrastructure in Africa. The project not only promises to enhance energy storage capacity but also aims to support the integration of solar and wind energy resources.

Fifty heavy-duty trucks laden with Gotion's self-developed 5MWh storage systems set out from its facilities in Jinzhai and Nantong, marking the commencement of what is expected to be a transformative development in the region. The launch showcases Gotion’s commitment to efficiency and swift execution in a market that demands rapid advancements in renewable energy technologies.

The AC-coupled energy storage project is a pivotal component of Egypt's Nefertiti and Horus programs, which are reportedly the country's first large-scale standalone storage solutions. Once operational, they will stand as Africa’s largest standalone storage facilities, expertly developed by AMEA Power and constructed by China Energy Engineering Group. These projects are set to bolster grid stability while enhancing the effectiveness of solar and wind energy utilization in the region, significantly contributing to Egypt's ambitious 2030 clean energy goals.

Moreover, Gotion has tailored its systems to withstand extreme environmental conditions typical of the region, such as high temperatures, sandstorms, and salt fog. The technology employed promises high-voltage stability and exceptional safety, with a response time in milliseconds. This is particularly beneficial for optimizing the solar energy harvested at Benban and enabling flexible peak-shaving processes for the Zafarana wind farm.

Gotion's remarkable capability to deliver the first shipment within a mere three months of contract signing underscores its strengths in large-scale storage systems integration and global supply chain coordination. Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, expressed pride in the partnership with Gotion, stating, "This shipment opens a new stage of broader cooperation," highlighting their ongoing efforts to explore further opportunities across the Middle East and Africa.

Li Chen, Gotion’s Senior Vice President and President of Gotion Americas, emphasized the project’s significance in establishing Gotion’s footprint in the Middle East and North Africa.
