Celebrating 30 Years of Starbucks in Japan
Starbucks Coffee Japan is marking a significant milestone: the 30th anniversary of its arrival in Japan. Since the opening of its first store in Ginza, Tokyo, on August 2, 1996, Starbucks has grown exponentially. By 2026, it will have expanded to more than 2,100 stores across all 47 prefectures in Japan, making it a beloved part of daily life for many.
In celebration, Starbucks is launching a special series titled
#MyStarbucks and featuring stories from around 20 notable personalities from various fields, including fashion, art, and music. This unique initiative aims to explore the personal connections these individuals have with Starbucks and how the brand has woven itself into the fabric of their lives over the past three decades.
Starting April 20, the series will be published on FASHIONSNAP's official SNS channels, highlighting the theme
“Your Story with Starbucks.” Participants will share their cherished experiences and memories associated with Starbucks, all framed through their own narratives. This initiative fosters inclusivity and gratitude as they recount moments shared over coffee, showcasing how Starbucks has been a silent but consistent companion throughout their journeys.
Among the distinguished participants are leading figures such as
Hiroshi Shitara, President and CEO of Beams, who contributes insights from the fashion industry, and
Shogo Ohta, an artist known for his work with Starbucks on product and cup designs. The music scene is represented by
Dai Hirai, who has composed original music for Starbucks during the holiday season, and
Yoshiki Mizuno from the acclaimed band Ikimonogakari, who often utilizes Starbucks as a workspace. Each guest will delve into their special relationship with Starbucks, revealing how the brand has influenced their creativity and daily routines.
The series will also feature contributors from diverse backgrounds, including those who collaborated with Starbucks on its children’s book project released in 2023, such as
Osamu Suzuki, illustrator
Kanae Izumi, and members from popular groups like THE RAMPAGE and
Nako Yabuki. Through these contributions, readers can expect to see a rich tapestry of stories that illustrate the profound impact Starbucks has had across different segments of society.
Every story shared is distinct, reflecting a singular experience that collectively epitomizes the vibrant thirty years spent in connection with Starbucks. From favorite beverages to moments where a Starbucks cup of coffee provided a pause in the day, these anecdotes will vividly portray the cherished memories formed around the brand.
