PenFed Foundation's Impactful Fundraising at the Military Heroes Golf Classic
On August 31, 2026, the 23rd annual Military Heroes Golf Classic took place, showcasing the generous spirit of supporters committed to aiding veterans and their families. Organized by the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes, this charity golf event raised an impressive total of over $1.2 million, with the funds directly benefiting those who have served in the armed forces.
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Bradford J. "B.J." Shwedo, the foundation's president, expressed profound gratitude towards the partners and supporters of the event. He emphasized the significance of their generosity, stating that it enables the foundation to create vital opportunities for military families transitioning into civilian life. "Their unwavering commitment allows us to assist our nation's heroes in achieving successful and fulfilling lives after service," he noted.
Days leading up to the golf event, a special dinner was held to honor Ed Cody, who has dedicated 25 years to the PenFed Foundation as a member of the board of directors. His leadership has significantly influenced the foundation's direction and initiatives aimed at supporting veterans. James Schenck, the president and CEO of PenFed Credit Union, commended Cody for his extensive service and commitment to veterans, highlighting the impact of his contributions to the foundation's ongoing efforts.
"Ed's commitment reflects a deep sense of service and an understanding of the responsibilities we have towards those who have served our country," Schenck said. The obituary celebrated not just Cody's leadership with the foundation but also his lifelong commitment to serving those in uniform, starting as an Army lieutenant and continuing through a successful career in federal service.
The PenFed Foundation has played a critical role in supporting various initiatives, including the Defender's Lodge, the Afghan Rescue and Resettlement Program, and the Veteran Entrepreneur Program. To date, they have distributed over $55 million in financial support to veterans, active-duty personnel, and military families across the country.
Supporting Veterans and Families
Founded in 2001, the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes is a national nonprofit organization committed to assisting veterans in their transition from military service to civilian life. This structure ensures that each donation has a meaningful impact on the lives of those who have served.
The support provided by the PenFed Foundation has proven indispensable for many veterans and their families facing challenges during the transition process. Through financial education, grants, and various support initiatives, the foundation is dedicated to offering the necessary resources that veterans need for a successful post-service life.
This annual Golf Classic not only raises funds but also serves as a unifying event, bringing together community members, veterans, and supporters who share a commitment to honoring and serving those who wear the uniform. It stands as a reminder of the power of collective action and the difference it can make in the lives of many.
