The Play 'Kazesaki-Hana' Returns for Its Third Performance by Birth Okinawa Theatre Company

Celebration of 22 Years of Birth Okinawa Theatre Company

The Birth Okinawa Theatre Company is excited to announce the much-anticipated third performance of its iconic play, 'Kazesaki-Hana', from July 30 to August 3, 2025, at the Manga Theatre in Toshima, Tokyo. This year marks the company's 22nd anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than to revisit a beloved classic that has touched the hearts of many!

In the spring, audiences were enchanted by another representative work of the company, 'Oroboros,' which beautifully depicted the theme of invaluable friendship. Now, this summer, 'Kazesaki-Hana' takes center stage once again, promising an emotional journey filled with warmth and a sense of belonging.

Set against the backdrop of picturesque Okinawa, the play weaves together stories of life, family, and the essence of motherhood through the encounter of a woman named Yuri and the inhabitants of a small island. The plot thickens when Yuri unexpectedly arrives from Tokyo, finding herself welcomed by the Miyagi family, who lead an ordinary life. This meeting with the islanders envelops her in their comforting warmth. However, unbeknownst to the family, Yuri's visit holds significant purpose that will unfold throughout the performance.

Originally premiered in 2004 at the Oji Theatre and re-staged in 2007 at Manga Theatre, 'Kazesaki-Hana' serves as a vital piece that encapsulates the spirit of the Birth Okinawa Theatre Company. The upcoming rendition, being the first revival in 18 years, features enriching performances by returning cast members, along with new talents chosen through auditions, creating a vibrant and fresh version of this heartwarming tale.

The representation of Okinawa in the play evokes nostalgia, capturing the essence of connections that the residents once shared. Audiences can expect to feel the warmth of yesteryear’s Okinawa as they immerse themselves in the tale spun within the warm, single-story theater of Manga.

If you’re planning your summer activities, make sure to embrace the spirit of 'Okinawa's Summer' by attending this remarkable performance. We invite you to join us at Manga Theatre!
