Supporting Young Survivors: A Call to Action for Society
In a touching message from Brohan Sato, the representative director of Compass Navi, the importance of fostering a safe environment for young survivors of abuse is underscored. He expresses gratitude towards Marika Kikuchi, the representative of the General Incorporated Association Masterpiece, for her unwavering support during his difficult times in life. Through this initiative, Masterpiece aims to create a society where all youth feel secure in voicing their concerns and are supported in rebuilding their lives.
Masterpiece, based in Itabashi, Tokyo, is committed to aiding youth who have transitioned out of child welfare institutions or foster care. The crucial aspect of their mission revolves around ensuring that these young people have fundamental support in areas such as housing, food, and community. The organization's latest effort involves a crowdfunding project designed to continue providing necessary support for youths who have experienced abuse, poverty, and family issues.
Brohan recalls how his connection with Marika shaped his life positively. Having grown up in a challenging environment, he knows firsthand how critical it is to have a safe space and supportive individuals. Brohan’s journey from being a troubled youth to becoming a strong advocate illustrates the profound impact that support systems can have. Today, he emphasizes the importance of creating “safe places” or homes where young individuals facing adversity can find solace.
Through the crowdfunding project titled “Become a Supporter for Homes of Youth Who Have Experienced Abuse,” Masterpiece aims to empower these youths by collecting 3 million yen from August 13, 2025, to September 30, 2025. The funds will be allocated towards various essential areas, including:
- - Covering living expenses for youths entering houses who might currently have little to no funds.
- - Providing staff support to help establish a stable living environment for house residents.
- - Repairing facilities to ensure a safe living atmosphere.
- - Funding community-building initiatives, including volunteer stipends and transportation costs.
The touching message from Brohan expresses a desire for more young people to realize they can lead fulfilling lives despite their difficult pasts. He recalls his own experience of being supported and how it instilled hope in him. “The belief that you can lean on others and return to a safe place can serve as a powerful motivator for young people,” he remarks. Brohan dreams of assisting the next generation in confidently taking their first steps toward a brighter future and further emphasizes the critical nature of the work done by Masterpiece.
Brohan Sato’s background is quite remarkable. Born on February 28, 1992, as a stateless individual and having faced abuse in childhood, he spent eight crucial years in a child welfare institution in Tokyo. His experiences fueled his dedication to community engagement and advocacy, leading him to participate in speaking engagements and collaborate with others to address social issues via platforms like YouTube. In addition, he serves on the special committee for the Child and Family Agency, advocating for policies that support vulnerable children and youth.
