MGM Resorts and BetMGM’s Commitment to Responsible Gaming
In a significant move towards promoting responsible gaming, MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have announced a combined contribution of $300,000 aimed at enhancing research and partnership initiatives in the field of responsible gaming. This investment is being made as both companies join forces with the American Gaming Association (AGA) to celebrate Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) throughout September 2026.
The announcement highlights MGM Resorts' and BetMGM’s ongoing commitment to fostering a safe gaming environment by funding important research through organizations such as the International Center for Responsible Gaming and supporting various state problem gambling councils. Notably, this includes crucial support for the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, which assists individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Additionally, a donation will be made to the Evive Foundation, providing access to essential digital tools and peer support for those affected by gambling-related issues.
Expanding GameSense Initiatives
One noteworthy aspect of this partnership is the ongoing presence of GameSense® messaging in major professional sports venues. The initiative aims to expand its messaging into new arenas, including Las Vegas' NHL and WNBA venues, reinforcing the commitment to responsible gaming through innovative outreach. GameSense is a highly regarded program first developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation in 2017, focusing on open and constructive engagement with customers concerning responsible gambling practices.
The GameSense messaging will be visible at various renowned sports venues, such as:
- - T-Mobile Arena (Vegas Golden Knights)
- - Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburgh Steelers)
- - Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas Raiders)
- - Great American Ballpark (Cincinnati Reds)
BetMGM's Chief Compliance Officer, Rhea Loney, emphasized that player protection is a daily priority for the company. She noted, “RGEM provides us an excellent opportunity to spotlight our ongoing efforts in responsible gaming, reaching players where they engage most— in sports venues.” Furthermore, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are committed to providing extensive research-based responsible gaming training for all employees. More than 3,000 employees have been certified through the GameSense Advisor program, cultivating a workforce dedicated to promoting responsible gambling practices.
Ongoing Employee Training and Community Impact
Stephen Martino, the Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for MGM Resorts International, expressed the significance of reaching this milestone. He affirmed that the engagement of employees in responsible gaming initiatives helps broaden the program's impact, ultimately benefiting guests and the wider community.
In recognition of RGEM's importance, both companies will leverage various digital platforms and retail sportsbooks to reach out to guests throughout September. Effective messaging, including QR codes linked to responsible gaming resources, will be integrated into BetMGM's communications, ensuring that players are reminded to “take a time-out” when necessary. Notably, MGM's lavish Las Vegas marquees will feature prominent messages urging sports betters to “Play Smart from the Start.”
Additionally, BetMGM continues its collaboration with EPIC Global Solutions to provide its employees with opportunities to attend sessions focused on the human impact of problem gambling. This monthly engagement not only raises awareness among employees but also accentuates the importance of responsible gaming within the workplace.
MGM Resorts has also taken further steps by initiating various commitments to enhance responsible gaming culture. These include collaborating with Carleton University for casino employee research, organizing educational booths throughout Las Vegas properties, and surveying guests and customers about their responsible gaming perspectives.
Looking Ahead
Both MGM Resorts and BetMGM are set to launch an assertive social media and internal campaign showcasing leadership insights on responsible gaming. The executives hope that their collective initiatives will translate into greater public awareness and understanding of responsible gaming’s importance.
As the gaming and entertainment industry evolves, MGM Resorts and BetMGM remain dedicated to ensuring players have the tools and knowledge needed to make informed decisions. Their sustained commitment will undoubtedly contribute to safer gaming practices, making a significant impact in both their organizations and the communities they serve.
