Beko Sets Ambitious Green Goals for 2050 with Renewable Energy Initiatives

Beko's Vision for a Sustainable Future

Beko, a leader in the home appliance sector, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and climate action with its latest integrated report for 2024. The report illustrates the company's ambitious roadmap towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050 through the utilization of 100% green electricity at all production facilities by 2030.

Sustainability Goals

In a world where sustainability can often wane in importance during corporate discussions, Beko maintains a steadfast focus on inspiring sustainable living in every household. This commitment is backed by tangible actions, such as the significant increase in the company's investment in renewable energy and its global refurbishment program, which successfully extended the lifespan of over 114,000 appliances in 2024 alone.

As a recognized leader in sustainable practices, Beko has been rated highest in its sector in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment for six consecutive years. Recently, the company was also ranked 17th among the world's most sustainable businesses by TIME Magazine and Statista, underscoring its strong climate strategy and ongoing efforts in transparency regarding ESG, product efficiency, supply chain responsibility, and social inclusion.

Integrated Reporting Framework

For the first time, Beko's integrated report aligns with several international reporting frameworks, including the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) guidelines, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, Turkish Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS), and the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This report incorporates a dual materiality assessment, evaluating the impact of sustainability issues on Beko's operations and conversely, the effects of its activities on society and the environment.

The combination of stakeholder expectations with internal analysis guides concrete actions. This approach reflects Beko's long-term vision to make sustainability not just a strategic priority, but a globally shared imperative. Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko, emphasized that achieving a net-zero future requires total focus and concrete actions. He stated, "We are committed to reaching 100% green electricity in all our factories by 2030 and have significantly strengthened our refurbishment program. Our commitment goes beyond that—we continuously work on improving water and waste management, reducing emissions across our entire value chain, and designing products that consume fewer resources."

Implementing Circular Economy Practices

Beko is on track to achieve its net-zero goal by 2050, focusing on intermediate targets, including the utilization of 100% green electricity in manufacturing plants by 2030. The company has rapidly increased its investments in renewable energies, attaining a total installed capacity of 90.2 MWp—30 times the capacity achieved just four years ago.

Beko’s circular economy strategy transforms product design, production, and end-of-life processes. The refurbishment of 114,468 devices in 2024 helped reduce electronic waste and the carbon footprint for consumers.

Sustainability is embedded in Beko's governance; executive remuneration is partly tied to environmental performance, with goals integrated into the performance indicators of key executive committee members, especially regarding emissions reductions and supply chain sustainability.

Collective Climate Action

Being an active participant and signatory in various global initiatives, Beko reiterates its commitment to collective climate action. The integrated report serves as a genuine call to action, inviting all stakeholders to join efforts in preserving the sustainability of our planet.
