Gotion Leads the Launch of the Europe-Africa Electric Logistics Corridor



In a groundbreaking partnership, Gotion, in collaboration with Green Power Morocco (GPM) and Chery Heavy Trucks, has signed an agreement aimed at developing an electric logistics corridor for heavy-duty trucks stretching between Morocco and France. This initiative is poised to enhance transcontinental freight operations while significantly reducing carbon emissions.

The Route and Its Importance



The newly established logistics route spans approximately 2,000 kilometers, linking Agadir in southern Morocco to Perpignan in southern France via the bustling port of Tangier. This port currently accommodates around 2,000 heavy trucks per day, making it a critical node in international trade. By shifting to electric vehicles along this artery, the project aims to dramatically decrease the greenhouse gas emissions associated with transport.

Innovative Partnership Model



To oversee this ambitious project, Gotion and GPM will form a joint venture responsible for managing the electric fleets, battery exchange stations, intelligent distribution, and energy storage solutions. The initial phase will roll out 100 electric trucks equipped with Gotion’s advanced battery systems, with plans to expand based on infrastructure readiness and operational performance. Chery will leverage its engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities to contribute to the success of this initiative.

Advances in Battery Technology and Operational Efficiency



An essential component of this project is the development of a battery swapping solution, aimed at minimizing vehicle downtime and enhancing operational efficiency for the heavy-duty trucks. This system is being supported by initiatives in battery standardization and lifecycle management, ensuring that the trucks can operate seamlessly throughout their service periods.

Commercial Corridors with Low Emissions



This project not only emphasizes electrification but also integrates energy infrastructure and digital logistics, creating a scalable model to reduce emissions in freight transportation. Although there are no current claims of achieving carbon neutrality, future environmental performance declarations will be based on verified data and necessary certifications.

Phil Jenkins, CEO of GPM Holding, stated, “This collaboration combines Gotion’s battery technology with Chery’s manufacturing prowess to tailor electric logistics solutions that meet regional needs. The logistics sector in Morocco possesses significant long-term potential.” In agreement, Li Zhen, President of Gotion High-Tech, highlighted that this marks a pivotal advancement in broadening the applications of their battery technologies, thereby fostering low-emission goods transport solutions.
