Natori Corporation's Award-Winning Initiative in CO2 Reduction
Natori Corporation, headquartered in Kita-ku, Tokyo and led by President Saburo Natori, has recently garnered recognition for its environmental initiatives. In partnership with Sagawa Express, Omiya Transport, and Japan Freight Railway Company, Natori has successfully implemented a modal shift from truck transport to rail transport aimed at significantly reducing CO2 emissions. This collaborative effort was awarded the Encouragement Prize at the 26th Logistics Environment Award ceremony, which took place on June 30, 2025, at the Tokyo Prince Hotel located in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
Overview of the Initiative
The Natori Group has been actively engaged in converting transportation between factories and distribution centers from truck services to rail container services. Starting April 2024, the company will implement this modal shift for the transportation of products such as cheese fish sticks from its Saitama Second Factory in Kuki City and meat products from its Kazo Branch Office in Kazo City to the Kyushu Commission Distribution Center in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Through this initiative, Natori has successfully reduced CO2 emissions by 243 tons (78%) compared to the previous year.
This impressive reduction underscores the company's commitment to integrating environmental considerations into their logistics and operational processes. Moving forward, the Natori Group aims to achieve a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per unit by the fiscal year 2025, compared to data from 2013.
Comments from the Logistics Division
At the 26th Logistics Environment Award, the Natori Group was honored with the Encouragement Prize due to its shift from truck transportation to rail container services for shipments from the Greater Tokyo Area to the Kyushu region. This initiative is recognized for making a substantial contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting sustainable logistics. The company remains dedicated to ongoing improvements in efficiency and environmentally conscious logistics.
Commitment to SDGs
Natori’s sustainability initiatives are led by the SDGs Promotion Committee established in July 2020, operating under the principle of fostering collective participation in steady progress on sustainability. Their slogan, “Let’s Create Future Snacks,” reflects their basic policy to contribute to the realization of a sustainable environment and society through snacks. They have established four fundamental policies: consideration for the environment, safety and security, social contribution, and creating a comfortable work environment. These principles align with their six-year medium-term management plan titled “Next Value Up for 80,” emphasizing the reinforcement of their governance efforts towards SDGs.
