CJ 4DPLEX Welcomes Jun Bang as New CEO, Shaping the Future of Cinematic Experiences

CJ 4DPLEX, a global leader in premium film formats and cinema technologies, has recently appointed Jun Bang as its new CEO. This appointment marks a significant milestone not only for Bang, who becomes the youngest CEO within the CJ Group of companies but also positions him among the youngest executives within Korea's major conglomerates. His ascent is attributed to his pivotal role in driving key initiatives that have propelled the company’s success in the rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.

Under Bang's leadership, CJ 4DPLEX has seen considerable expansion in its alternative content segment. The company has made notable strides by producing and distributing nearly 20 original films annually, including concert films featuring prominent Pop, K-Pop, and J-Pop artists. Additionally, they accomplished a remarkable first by broadcasting live sports theatrically in the ScreenX format during the Korean Baseball Organization's playoff series earlier this year.

Bang's vision also extends to the operations of the ScreenX VFX Production and Creative Studio. This studio, employing nearly 100 visual artists, has substantially bolstered the company’s ability to produce a diverse range of content, covering major Hollywood blockbusters and local projects across critical global markets. His extensive experience includes serving as a member of the executive management group at CJ CGV, further reinforcing his strategic influence within the company.

Prior to his role as CEO, Jun Bang held the position of COO of Content Marketing, where he was instrumental in leading original content investment, film operations, global marketing, and theatrical distribution. His journey with CJ 4DPLEX began in 2018, where he transitioned from Senior Director of Content Business Innovation, focusing on investment and distribution strategies. Bang's earlier career involved various roles in innovation strategy, business development, and administration across multiple industries.

In his new capacity, Bang expressed enthusiasm for navigating CJ 4DPLEX through a critical phase in cinematic entertainment. He stated, "With recent momentum in our theaters, we will aggressively expand our operations as moviegoers increasingly seek out 4DX and ScreenX experiences worldwide."

Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, CJ 4DPLEX is renowned for its cutting-edge film technologies, including the 4DX format, which delivers an immersive, multi-sensory experience. The company is also known for the panoramic ScreenX format that enhances cinematic viewing by projecting images onto the auditorium’s side walls. This unique format creates an expansive viewing experience, akin to virtual reality. Currently, there are more than 420 ScreenX auditoriums in operation across 40 countries.

Moreover, the 4DX experience is tailored to immerse audiences in the narrative, featuring synchronized motion-based seating and over 21 distinct effects, including wind, snow, scents, and more. Presently, over 800 4DX auditoriums are functional in over 70 countries, indicating the widespread attraction of this innovative cinematic experience.

CJ 4DPLEX operates under the larger CJ Group umbrella, which also encompasses entertainment giants like CJ ENM and CJ CGV, the fifth-largest cinema chain globally. The company’s commitment to technological advancements ensures that they remain at the forefront of delivering unparalleled entertainment experiences.

As the industry continues to compete with home and streaming services, Jun Bang's leadership is poised to propel CJ 4DPLEX into a new era of growth and customer engagement, enriching the way audiences experience cinema as they know it. Thus, not only is his appointment a notable achievement for him personally but also indicates a bright future for CJ 4DPLEX on the global stage.
