The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is launching a series of initiatives to celebrate this milestone, ensuring that the spirit of the Games continues to thrive in the city.
Events to Celebrate the Anniversary
To honor the Tokyo 2020 Games, various memorable events will be organized. Here are the details of the key events:
1. Anniversary Commemoration Event
- - Date: Saturday, July 25, 2025
- - Location: Tokyo Midtown Atrium, Akasaka 9-7-1, Minato City
- - Activities: The event will feature informative experiences related to urban sports, athlete talks, a greeting session with the official mascots of the Tokyo 2020 Games, and engaging digital experiences.
- - Participation: Free entry for all; everyone is welcome to join in the fun!
2. Special Stage for the 5th Anniversary of the Paralympics
- - Date: Sunday, August 30, 2025
- - Location: Tokyo International Forum, Marunouchi 3-5-1, Chiyoda City
- - Activities: This event will showcase demonstrations by para-athletes and will include a captivating talk show.
- - Participation: Free entry but requires prior registration (details will be provided in early July).
Call for Stories and Messages from the Public
In addition to the festivals, Tokyo is inviting citizens to submit their personal stories and messages reflecting on the last five years. Whether it’s about the inspiration and courage they felt during the Games or the changes in their perspectives on a society where everyone coexists, all submissions are welcome. Selected narratives will be highlighted during the special stage event on August 30, offering a platform to share collective aspirations for the future.

- - From May 28, 2025, to August 19, 2025 (until 23:59).
Who Can Submit?
- - Anyone can participate. On special pages, contributors will be acknowledged by their nicknames.
How to Submit

Publication
- - All submitted messages and stories will be featured on the special page. Some entries may also be used in promotional materials, though not every submission will be published.
Important Notes
- - Copyright for submitted stories will belong to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
- - The following submissions are prohibited:
1. Infringement of intellectual property rights
2. Discriminatory or inappropriate content
3. Materials related to political, religious, or commercial activity
4. Anything that significantly deviates from the spirit and purpose of this initiative.
Tokyo also unveiled a special emblem to commemorate the five-year anniversary of the games. In collaboration with local municipalities and organizations, this emblem will be utilized for various commemorative projects. Everyone is encouraged to participate in events and experience the excitement and legacy left by the Tokyo 2020 Games once again!
