Celebrate Autumn at the 7th Akigawa River Fireworks Festival
The much-anticipated
7th Akigawa River Fireworks Festival is confirmed to take place on
November 15, 2025 (Saturday) at the special venue of
Tokyo Summerland's second parking area. Organised by the
Machizukuri Consortium, a non-profit organization based in
Akiruno City, Tokyo, this event is a community-driven initiative aiming to revive the traditional fireworks display that once lit up the summer skies in the area.
A Rich Heritage of Fireworks
The birth of the Akigawa River Fireworks Festival is deeply rooted in nostalgia. With the discontinuation of Tokyo Summerland's summer fireworks shows, the region's vibrant fireworks culture faded away. This inspiring festival emerged in
2019, led by Shinya Tachibana, the then-chairman of the Akiruno Junior Chamber, with a vision to reconnect the community through joyful and colorful fireworks.
The festival serves dual purposes: it brings back the beautiful spectacle of fireworks to the area while addressing the economic challenges during the off-peak seasons of autumn and winter. Transitioning to a privately-run event under the Machizukuri Consortium in
2023, the festival aims to sustain local cultural activities without heavy reliance on government support, garnering attention from all across Japan.
The Festival Theme
With the heartwarming theme “
Colorful Autumn Nights,” the Akigawa River Fireworks Festival strives to weave connections among families, friends, and community members through breathtaking pyrotechnics synchronized with music.
