New Leadership Appointments at NIBS
The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) has made significant updates to its Board of Directors for the terms of 2026-2027. These changes aim to drive the mission of the organization further by introducing new perspectives and experiences from prominent figures in the field of building science and engineering.
New Board Leadership
Dominic Sims, who is the President of Jupiter Advisory Group and previously held the position of CEO at the International Code Council, will step into the role of Board Chair. This leadership under Sims is expected to steer the board towards greater innovation in the built environment. Serving alongside him will be Bruce Risley, RA, CCM, a retired professional from ARCADIS, who assumes the role of Vice Chair, and James Koch, a former member of Michael Baker International, who will take on the responsibilities of Board Treasurer.
Introducing New Board Members
The newly appointed members, Robert Howard and Kevin Walsh, bring invaluable experience to the team. Howard, as President of Howard Building Science, specializes in sustainable technology and affordable housing. His dual role as a lecturer at Appalachian State University enhances his contribution to the board by incorporating educational insights into building sciences and clean energy.
On the other hand, Kevin Walsh, equipped with a PhD and experience as an associate teaching Professor at the University of Notre Dame, focuses on structural engineering and seismic resilience. His role as Director of the Master of Engineering Program, along with his involvement with Frost Engineering, positions him to contribute significantly to the board's initiatives.
Vision and Impact
George Guszcza, President and CEO of NIBS, emphasizes the critical role of innovation in the built environment and the importance of having a strong board to lead these efforts. He asserts, "Innovation across all sectors requires one shared foundation: the built environment." Under such leadership, the board is tasked with enhancing the safety and resiliency of communities.
NIBS also paid tribute to outgoing chair Charlie (Chuck) Curlin, Jr., who will continue to contribute to the organization in the capacity of Immediate Past Chair. The organization expressed gratitude towards Lori Peek and Monika Serrano for their past contributions.
Commitment to Building Innovation
Established by Congress in 1974, NIBS serves as a key source for groundbreaking insights that push forward innovations in the field of building sciences.
