Boluda Shipping Partners with TMEIC to Innovate Port Operations Digitally

Boluda Shipping's Digital Transformation with TMEIC's Pulse Mobile

Boluda Shipping has recently taken a significant step in its digital transformation journey by selecting TMEIC's Pulse Mobile platform to enhance operations at its maritime terminals. This initiative represents a new operational model designed to optimize interactions between trucks and terminal facilities at ports, addressing modern challenges such as rising truck volumes, limited space, and the urgent need for improved efficiency and sustainability.

The implementation of Pulse Mobile aims to preemptively tackle operational hurdles, resolving up to 80% of issues before trucks even reach the terminal gates. By streamlining key operational processes and access control, Boluda can elevate its operational efficiency and provide a smoother flow for truck traffic.

The comprehensive access control platform created by TMEIC not only increases connectivity between Boluda terminals and the trucking sector, but it also oversees the entire truck journey—from pre-arrival validation to exception management and operational yard coordination. This will be first applied in Boluda's headquarters at Tenerife, allowing for the rollout of advanced digital processes without disrupting existing terminal systems like the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and Port Community System (PCS).

As explained by Gonzalo Calero Gómez, General Manager of Boluda Maritime Terminals, adapting to growing truck traffic, limited space, and sustainability objectives requires innovation. He stated, "This level of innovation necessitates a partner that shares our vision for connected ports and possesses the technological expertise to make it a reality." This partnership will be pivotal in evolving Boluda's terminal operations to become increasingly efficient and user-focused.

Pulse Mobile simplifies collaboration among Boluda, carriers, and drivers, enabling a new framework for truck and terminal management. From the moment carriers receive work orders for loading or unloading cargo, full visibility is available, covering everything from operational information validation to incident management and terminal access. Real-time connectivity further enhances coordination and decision-making, effectively reducing errors and eliminating paperwork.

The independent nature of Pulse Mobile allows it to seamlessly integrate with existing terminal systems, such as TOS and PCS, rather than replacing them. Past implementations of Pulse Mobile have showcased its capability to resolve up to 80% of issues prior to truck arrival, cutting access gate cycle times by up to 50%, and increasing lane availability by 98%. This culminates in significantly decreased congestion at access points, fostering more predictable operational flows while minimizing unnecessary trips and downtime, ultimately lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Furthermore, the automation facilitated by Pulse Mobile enables Boluda to lessen its reliance on ticketing hardware, such as kiosks and printers, which has led other users of this solution to achieve maintenance and parts cost reductions of up to 60%. Safety improvements are another added benefit, as employees can manage entry processes away from heavy machinery and inclement weather, thus lowering their exposure to harmful pollutants and injury risks.

According to Francisco Grau, General Manager of TMEIC Port Technologies, the maritime sector is at a pivotal turning point where digital transformation is ushering in a new generation of interconnected, data-driven, and sustainable operations. "We are honored to collaborate with Boluda to facilitate this evolution," he remarked, further emphasizing the project's alignment with TMEIC's vision for the future of terminal operations where integrated software, automation, and operational intelligence redefine port capabilities.

In summary, this partnership between Boluda Shipping and TMEIC marks a significant leap toward modernizing port operations, demonstrating the power of technology in driving efficiency and sustainability within the maritime industry.
