Children's Storytelling Event and Book-Making Experience by Japan Heart NGO

Join Japan Heart for an Engaging Children's Event!

On May 13, a unique event will take place in Tokyo, where children are invited to participate in a storytelling session and book-making experience organized by Japan Heart, a prominent international medical NGO founded in Japan. The event will take place at a local "Kodomo Shokudo" (Children's Cafeteria), and features the unveiling of an original picture book titled "Kokoro ga Pokapoka" (Warmhearted). This delightful book was collaboratively created with the support of dedicated individuals from the community known as the Japan Heart Club.

About the Book: "Kokoro ga Pokapoka"

The picture book, designed for lower elementary school students, was born from a discussion focused on how to improve Japan's ranking in the World Giving Index, where it has been listed as one of the lowest countries in helping others. The initiative involves the creative planning and organization of the Japan Heart Club and striking illustrations by freelance illustrator Masae Tezuka, who is also a monthly supporter of Japan Heart.

The World Giving Index, published by the UK-based charity organization Charities Aid Foundation, ranks Japan as 141st globally, reflecting the urgent need to cultivate a culture of charity and volunteerism. By offering this book and the associated event, Japan Heart aims to inspire children to foster a sense of compassion and understanding.

Event Details

The event aims to provide an enriching experience for children, allowing them to engage with the book through storytelling, folding activities, and coloring workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of their own version of the book, offering a personal touch to their artistic expression. Every child attending this special day will receive a copy of the book they helped create as a gift.

Event Highlights:

  • - Date: May 13
  • - Location: Kodomo Shokudo in Katsushika, Tokyo

Masayuki Tezuka, the illustrating artist, is known for her contributions to various pamphlets and books, as well as package illustrations. Since then, she has offered her artistic skills to support their mission.

Conclusion

This storytelling and book-making event not only aims to entertain children but also emphasizes the importance of kindness, creativity, and community connection.
