YUGEN Gallery Presents 'XING' - A Journey Through Art

YUGEN Gallery, located in Minato, Tokyo, will host the captivating solo exhibition 'XING' by artist Nao Tatsumi from November 22 to December 15, 2025. As viewers enter the gallery, they will be greeted with vibrant landscapes that reflect Tatsumi's unique interpretation of the modern world, reminiscent of a scene from an American road movie, blended with the glitches of the digital realm.

An Artistic Synthesis of Reality and Imagination

Nao Tatsumi's artistic journey began after studying architecture at Tsukuba University, where she cultivated her skills as an illustrator before emerging as a painter. Since 2017, she has showcased her artwork both domestically and internationally, receiving recognition, including a published collection, 'Un Sedicesimo', from Italy's Corraini Edizioni.

In 'XING', Tatsumi draws inspiration from the American pedestrian crossing sign, 'PED XING'. This symbol—universally understood yet interpreted differently by each viewer—serves as a conceptual foundation for her exploration into the nature of perception and meaning in art. Around twenty works will be displayed, each capturing the essence of human emotions woven together in the context of fleeting memories and vibrant landscapes.

"This world is built upon a serendipitous connection of infinite choices. I aim to enhance the density of that randomness and challenge myself with new landscape paintings," Tatsumi explains. She embraces every unexpected occurrence during her artistic process, such as the errors in digital images and the chance encounters with colors, allowing these elements to steer her creative expression. Rather than merely replicating visual impressions, Tatsumi captures colors that resonate with her spirit, creating a dynamic and engaging visual narrative.

To celebrate the opening of 'XING', YUGEN Gallery will host a reception on November 22 at 2 PM, allowing attendees to engage in meaningful conversations with the artist over drinks. About Nao Tatsumi

Nao Tatsumi, born in 1983 in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, graduated from the art and architecture program at Tsukuba University. Based in Yokohama, she continuously blends digital representations with her personal artistic expressions, creating a unique landscape that reflects both the glitches of technology and the beauty of lived experiences.
