Encounter with Contemporary Creators
From June 25 to July 12, 2026, the Tokugawa Museum, in collaboration with Chukyo TV, will host a special exhibition titled 'Encounter with Contemporary Creators'. This unique event celebrates the creative fusion of traditional art and modern innovation, featuring a range of exhibits inspired by the museum's collection of national treasures and important cultural properties.
A Journey Through Art
This exhibition is a continuation of the Chukyo TV show 'Mujinabakeru', which aired from last July to March this year, commemorating the company's 55th anniversary. The show allowed contemporary artists to create fresh interpretations of the museum’s historic art pieces—transforming them into an array of modern creations ranging from Japanese painting, traditional sweets, sukajan (a type of jacket), robots, to animations.
Diverse Art Forms
Visitors will find a breathtaking array of 16 carefully selected artworks, including some that are rarely displayed to the public. These pieces will be transformed into various modern formats such as carpets, three-dimensional paper cuts, sweet decorations, music, and augmented reality visuals—making this event enjoyable for art enthusiasts and novices alike.
Audio Guide Experience
Adding a special touch to the exhibition, an audio guide featuring Chukyo TV's regular host, Akihiro Yasuda of SUPER EIGHT, and the official character 'Bake-ru-kun' (voiced by comedian Tsukaji Takuma) will be available for purchase. This guide promises an engaging presentation of the artworks, allowing guests to feel as if they're part of the show during their visit. The guide can be enjoyed for three hours after activating it, so guests can take their time exploring the exhibits.
Photo Opportunities and Merchandise
A photo spot mimicking the TV show's set will also be available, letting visitors capture memories as if they were guests on the program. Additionally, exclusive Bake-ru-kun merchandise will be on sale, having already garnered popularity in previous touring exhibitions held at venues like JR Nagoya Takashimaya and Shibuya Modi. Free entry items will also be given away, enhancing the excitement of the visit.
A Message from the Deputy Director
As the Deputy Director of Tokugawa Museum expresses, the aim is to allow both the present and future generations to appreciate the beauty of the museum’s collection. As times and perspectives change, the approach to art also evolves, and the creations emerging from the inspirations drawn from these historic pieces reveal new facets of their allure.
