Second Annual Solstice Century Ride: A 100-Mile Journey for Change
The annual Solstice Century Ride took place in Bolingbrook, Illinois, this year, uniting 52 cyclists for a remarkable 100-mile journey. On the longest day of the year, participants braved hot and humid weather to support six local nonprofit organizations. The event successfully raised an impressive sum of nearly $105,000, a testament to the riders' dedication and the generosity of their sponsors.
Event creator Zac Larson, an passionate cyclist and co-founder of IntentGen Financial Partners based in Naperville, expressed immense pride in this year's fundraising achievements, which surpassed those of the inaugural event held in 2024. Larson’s vision when he started the ride was to blend his love for cycling with a commitment to give back to the community.
“I love seeing people take on challenges,” Larson said. “The Solstice Century encourages people to push out of their comfort zone to make a difference for others— and themselves.”
With 100% of the generated funds directed towards local community service organizations, the ride plays a crucial role in addressing issues such as housing and food insecurity, mental health support, and international youth outreach. The organizations benefiting from this year's event include:
- - DuPagePads
- - Hesed House
- - SamaraCare
- - Grow Wellness Foundation
- - Max's Mission
- - 413
Bill Smith, Chair of the SamaraCare Board, articulated the positive impact that these donations will have on the community. He noted, “Our vision states that nothing stands in the way of people getting the care needed to reach their greatest potential. Our mission aligns perfectly with the spirit of this event as riders pushed their limits.”
After the demanding ride, participants enjoyed a well-deserved celebration featuring dinner from local favorite Billy Bricks Pizza and live music performed by Johnny's Crush.
Among the first-time participants was Kate Peseski from Naperville, who found the experience exhilarating and rewarding. “Solstice Century was such an amazing and rewarding experience,” she reported. “Everything we needed to stay energized and hydrated was provided throughout the day, and the other riders motivated me to raise more than my goal and to finish the 100 miles!”
As an event that not only challenges riders physically but also cultivates a sense of community, the Solstice Century Ride reminds participants that their efforts contribute to something meaningful. By crossing the finish line, they gain a profound sense of achievement, knowing they have helped people they may never meet. The ride serves as a beacon of hope and unity, bringing together individuals on behalf of those in need.
The Solstice Century has quickly become an anticipated event, thanks to the dedication of the participants, volunteers, and sponsors. Larson emphasized that without the support from sponsors such as IntentGen Financial Partners, Trek-Naperville, WRIB Manufacturing, and Medical Risk Services, the success of this event would not have been possible.
