Invitation to Participate in the Children’s Food Safety Research Team and Pharmacy Workshop



The Tokyo Health and Safety Research Center presents an engaging program for children, aiming to instill the vital lessons of food safety and hygiene through fun and interactive learning. This event is structured across two days on July 29 and July 30, 2023, and is specially designed for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6.

Event Details


Day 1: Career Experience - “I Want to Be a Pharmacist!”


On the first day, children will dive into the world of pharmacy through exciting quizzes and a hands-on experience of dispensing medication. Participants will learn about the significance of medicines and how they impact our health.
  • - Time: Morning Session from 10 AM to 12 PM, Afternoon Session from 2 PM to 4 PM (Content is the same for both sessions)
  • - Venue: Tokyo Health and Safety Research Center, 3-24-1 Hyakunincho, Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Day 2: Sparkling Strategy to Knock Out Food Poisoning Bacteria!


The second day continues with an educative and interactive approach to hygiene, centering on the importance of handwashing. Children will observe live culturing of bacteria that can occur on hands and participate in practical handwashing experiments.
  • - Time: Morning Session from 10 AM to 12 PM, Afternoon Session from 2 PM to 4 PM (Content is the same for both sessions)
  • - Venue: Obirin University Shinjuku Campus, 3-23-1 Hyakunincho, Shinjuku, Tokyo (next to the Tokyo Health and Safety Research Center).

Audience and Capacity


This program is open to 36 groups of elementary school students (grades 4 to 6) residing in Tokyo. Participation for both days is mandatory as the experiments on the first day will be observed on the second day.
  • - Accompaniment: Parents are required to accompany their children. However, only one parent per group will be allowed in the venue.
  • - Participation: Activities such as mock dispensing and experiments will be limited to the children only.
  • - Cost: Free of charge.

Application Process


Children interested in participating need to register by July 13, 2023. Applications can be submitted via the official website: Application Form. Note that both sessions must be applied for at the same time.
  • - Notification: Participants will be informed of their acceptance status by July 22, 2023.
