Verdagy Partners with Mainspring Energy to Harness Hydrogen for Power Generation

In a significant move towards sustainable energy solutions, Verdagy, a leading company in clean hydrogen electrolysis, has teamed up with Mainspring Energy, Inc. to establish a hydrogen-powered linear generator facility in Moss Landing, California. This facility is expected to revolutionize the way energy is produced, showcasing the immense potential of hydrogen in the energy landscape.

Establishing a Hydrogen-Powered Future

The newly constructed facility in Moss Landing has been operational for four years, successfully producing over 200 tons of hydrogen through commercial cells, accumulating more than 20,000 operational hours. This state-of-the-art plant operates around the clock, consistently delivering affordable hydrogen fuel for electricity generation. The collaboration between Verdagy and Mainspring will provide a dedicated source of hydrogen for Mainspring's flexible fuel linear generators while also ensuring that Verdagy has on-site consumption of hydrogen and electricity to support its electrolyzers. Both companies anticipate that operations will commence by the summer of 2025.

Enhancing Energy Resilience

Marty Neese, CEO of Verdagy, emphasizes the importance of their partnership, stating, “Verdagy and Mainspring Energy demonstrate how we can enhance energy resilience for the electrical grid, data centers, and other applications.” This collaboration serves as a practical model for clean, flexible energy solutions, further promoting on-site hydrogen consumption for power generation in an era where grid resilience is paramount.

Economic Viability and Technical Excellence

Verdagy is well-versed in large-scale hydrogen production, and now seeks to reduce operational costs by converting hydrogen into electricity for internal use. Shannon Miller, CEO and Founder of Mainspring, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, noting it provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the capabilities of their linear generator when powered by hydrogen. The pairing of these technologies highlights the significant promise of hydrogen as a clean energy source.

The facility not only illustrates the efficient utilization of locally produced hydrogen but also addresses the crucial need for reliable energy solutions amidst growing grid constraints. Utilizing hydrogen in this fashion is increasingly critical, especially in energy-limited and mission-critical settings.
