Experience a Day of Learning at Toshima's Summer Event
On July 27, 2024, the historic Jiyu Gakuen Myonakan in Toshima City will transform into a vibrant venue for children to explore and learn during our annual event, "Toshima's Summer Learning Day." This special occasion aims to provide children with educational experiences during their summer vacation, fostering curiosity and creativity.
Event Overview
The event is a collaborative initiative between local authorities and private enterprises. Since its inception in 2022, the program has aimed to encourage children to learn actively through a variety of hands-on activities. This year, for the first time, several new participants will join the fun, including Daiou Miura Corporation, Nippon Life Insurance, Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance, and the Hokkaido Art High School Tokyo Ikebukuro Satellite Campus. In total, 15 booths will be set up, offering different activities and experiences to engage children and their families.
A Unique Learning Experience
The event promotes the idea of exploring through sight, sound, feeling, and thinking. Children and families will be able to participate in various exciting activities, including paper-making workshops using the petals and leaves of "Somei Yoshino," the designated tree of Toshima City. This initiative will be led by local high school students, including 17-year-old Yuto Yamada and 16-year-old Asuka Tachibana, who collaborated with Daiou Miura Corporation to develop this unique program.
Yuto Yamada expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I hope this event helps people learn more about Somei Yoshino, which originated in Toshima. We are excited to share our passion for our local culture with others and make a meaningful impact on the children participating in the event."
Support from Local Authorities
A spokesperson from the Toshima municipal office remarked, "We are thrilled to support such innovative ideas from our high school students. Their enthusiasm for promoting the beauty of Somei Yoshino showcases the collaborative spirit of our community. We encourage families to come join us for this enriching experience, and don't forget to stay hydrated as the weather is likely to be warm on that day!"
