Celebrating Bonds: Nippon Kodo's Mother's Day Haiku Contest 2023
Nippon Kodo, a leading incense manufacturer based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has officially announced the winners of its fourth annual haiku contest, titled
Mother's Day Haiku Contest. This year, the contest focused on the theme of the bond between mothers and their children, generating an overwhelming response from participants across Japan. Out of 2,108 submitted haiku, which significantly exceeded last year's entries, four haiku were selected by notable figures from the Japanese comedy scene, Panther's Kei Mukai and Fruits Punch's Kenji Murakami.
The winning haiku will be recited on the Nippon Kodo-sponsored radio program “#Furatto” on TBS Radio, hosted by Mukai and Murakami, on May 5 and 6. This segment, known as
Furatto Post, creates an engaging atmosphere as the hosts share insights and interpretations of the selected works.
