Grand Canyon Education's Third Quarter 2026 Results Show Strong Revenue Growth and Increased Operating Income

Grand Canyon Education, Inc. Reports Third Quarter 2026 Results

On November 4, 2026, Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (GCE) announced its financial results for the third quarter ending September 30, 2026. This publicly traded education services company continues to make strides in the post-secondary education sector, providing essential services to 20 university partners.

The company reported service revenue of $267.3 million for the quarter, reflecting a 2.4% increase from $261.1 million in the prior year. The primary driver for this revenue increase was a 5.2% rise in university partner enrollments, totaling 145,270 students at the end of September 2026, compared to 138,073 the previous year.

GCE noted particular growth from its largest partner, Grand Canyon University (GCU). The restructured revenue model has enabled the company to earn revenue primarily from tuition and academic-related fees rather than ancillary fees, which previously encompassed student housing and other services. This adjustment has standardized revenue generation even as student counts fluctuate.

Despite the overall increase in student enrollment, GCE's revenue per student witnessed a slight decline due to several factors, including six fewer days of revenue from traditional ground students, resulting in a shift of roughly $7.5 million in revenue to the fourth quarter of 2026. Additionally, there was a noted decrease in revenue per online students, resulting from a shift in the demographic towards students with lower tuition rates. However, the revenue generated from Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) programs has proven beneficial, as these partnerships yield higher tuition and revenues.

The company’s operating income has significantly improved, reaching $51.5 million, which represents a remarkable increase of 185.6% compared to $18.0 million for the same quarter last year. This boost in operating income allowed GCE to achieve an operating margin of 19.3% for the quarter, up from 6.9% in the prior year.

Net income also surged to $43.0 million, marking an impressive 164.3% increase year over year compared to $16.3 million in 2025. As a result, diluted net income per share rose to $1.67, up from $0.58.

For the nine months ending September 30, 2026, GCE's service revenue increased to $840.2 million, compared to $798.0 million for the same period in 2025. This increase mirrors the quarterly performance, driven once again by growing enrollment numbers in their partner institutions.

Operating income for the nine-month period reached $205.1 million, up 29.9% from the previous year. Consequently, the operating margin improved from 19.8% to 24.4%, showcasing GCE’s operational efficiencies.

Upcoming Plans and Share Repurchase Program

Looking forward, GCE has set ambitious revenue projections for Q4 2026, estimating service revenue between $320.5 million and $321.5 million. The company aims for an operating margin between 36.0% and 36.2%, with an effective tax rate of 23.0%. Notably, their expected diluted EPS is projected to be between $3.57 and $3.61.

Additionally, the company’s Board of Directors recently approved an increase in its stock repurchase program, raising the total authorization to $2.9 billion since inception. The program allows the company to purchase shares at market prices or through negotiated transactions, demonstrating confidence in GCE's continued growth and commitment to shareholder value.

GCE remains optimistic about its future growth trajectory, driven by continued partnerships and a robust enrollment pipeline. With its strategic shifts and operational enhancements, the company is well-positioned to achieve its financial goals and further solidify its presence in the education sector.

As GCE's growth continues, stakeholders can expect more positive outcomes in the upcoming quarters as the company navigates the ever-evolving landscape of post-secondary education and adapts its strategies to meet student needs and market demands.
