Aspen One's Commitment to Housing and Childcare in Mountain Communities
In the picturesque mountain communities of Roaring Fork Valley (RFV) and beyond, housing and childcare challenges persistently strain the fabric of local life. Aspen One, a leader in luxury and adventure, has stepped up its efforts, making notable strides over the past year to address these pressing issues. A recent announcement sheds light on the significant headway made in these sectors as the company invests heavily to improve the living conditions for its employees and the broader community.
A Comprehensive Response to Critical Needs
In response to the urgent need for affordable housing and reliable childcare, Aspen One has committed hundreds of millions of dollars toward developing substantial units for employees across various locations including Ketchum, Idaho, and Mammoth, California. “We recognize the role we must play in all communities we are part of,” stated Dave Tanner, President and CEO of Aspen One, emphasizing the company's dedication to being a proactive problem solver.
Aspen One's mission was clear: to innovate housing solutions that cater not only to individual needs but also to the requirements of growing families. This multifaceted approach includes the use of prefabricated technologies aimed at cutting costs, as well as engaging in partnerships with real estate developers to accelerate project development.
Key Projects Underway
Recent milestones in Aspen One’s housing initiatives include:
- - The SHOP: This 30-unit housing project in Snowmass Village is designed to offer long-term residences for personnel in hospitality and mountain operations. Currently navigating the approval phase, it aims to commence construction by the fall of 2025.
- - EJ Crossing: Aiming to become Aspen One’s largest housing neighborhood project, this 20-acre property has been contracted and is already zoned for more than 100 residential units. All accommodations will be dedicated to workforce housing for employees.
- - Limelight Ketchum and Mammoth: In a joint effort with hotel management, Aspen One is working to secure 32-40 beds in Idaho and California, facilitating crucial housing access for staff in these increasingly unaffordable regions.
- - Tiny Town: After years of planning, Aspen One has successfully completed a neighborhood of 95 tiny homes at the former Aspen-Basalt Campground site. A total of 54 units are now available for year-round employees, aimed at fostering long-term housing stability.
- - Tenants for Turns: As a creative housing solution, this program incentivizes homeowners to rent spaces to employees, offering ski passes or comparable rewards in exchange. Set to relaunch for the winter season, it hopes to utilize community support in tackling local housing shortages effectively.
- - Resident Ownership Support: Aspen One contributed $500,000 to support the resident purchase of mobile home parks—in preservation of nearly 140 homes, securing long-term affordability for around 500 residents.
- - Childcare Expansion at Blue Lake Preschool: Partnering with BLPS, Aspen One has announced a further investment of $500,000 to enhance childcare facilities, adding 33 new licensed seats and expanding infant and toddler programs.
A Future-Focused Vision
The team at Aspen One remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing ongoing community challenges. With ambitions extending beyond housing and childcare, the company is also dedicated to improving transportation access, sustainability practices, and advocacy efforts.
Tanner expressed gratitude towards community partners, attributing the progress made to collaborative dialogues that underscore the importance of these initiatives. “There is still much work ahead of us, but we are confident that with collective efforts, we can achieve our communal objectives,” he remarked.
As Aspen One continues to evolve, its foundational ethos remains steeped in sustainability and community engagement. With over 75 years of investing in innovation and quality service, the organization is carving out paths that not only redefine luxury and adventure but also inspire better living conditions and a brighter future for all residents of the regions it serves.
