Join the Exciting Photo Exhibition: “PHOTO IS” Bringing Together Your Memories in 2026!

“PHOTO IS” 2026: A Journey Through Memories

Fujifilm Corporation, located in Minato, Tokyo, is set to kick off its participatory photo exhibition titled “PHOTO IS” Bringing Together Your Memories, in July 2026, beginning from the 18th in Tokyo. The exhibition has gained considerable recognition, with every participant's work guaranteed a display space at their chosen venue. To be part of this vibrant celebration of photography, artists can submit their works from March 12 to May 20, 2026.

A New Chapter with Added Categories

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of this dynamic exhibition, and to commemorate the occasion, Fujifilm has introduced three new categories. These include:

1. Precious Memories Record: This category will highlight intimate moments captured with family and friends.
2. One Shot Encountered Through Film: Limited to photographs taken with Fujifilm’s well-loved point-and-shoot camera, “Instax,” or traditional film cameras.
3. Film Simulation Category: Open only for online submissions, inviting artists to use the innovative film simulation feature of Fujifilm's GFX and X series mirrorless cameras to create their submissions.

Participants can also submit works to other existing categories such as the Moments of Smiles, Favorite Shot, and the increasingly popular Instagram Section, allowing them to easily showcase their artistry and fun experiences through social media engagement.

Historical Context

Since its inception in 2006, “PHOTO IS” has served as an engaging platform for photographers of all levels to present their work, even amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the exhibition faced postponement but was promptly reestablished in 2021, utilizing online platforms to foster a blend of physical and digital experience for attendees. Last year saw participation from a wide demographic, resulting in roughly 30,000 displayed works, demonstrating the universal power of photography to evoke emotion and reflection.

Visitor feedback has highlighted the enriching experience of seeing diverse photos that resonate deeply with individual heartstrings. Many noted, "I was able to immerse myself in the moment captured by others, enriching my heart in the process," showcasing photography’s ability to narrate stories and provoke deep emotional connections.

Enhancing Connections Through Photography

The theme of this year's exhibition is 'Connecting Thoughts,' encouraging visitors to share their reflections and emotions regarding impactful works through the unique “Bond Message” initiative. Messages will be collected at dedicated bond posts located across the physical venues in Tokyo, Sendai, and Osaka, along with the online exhibition site. After the event, these heartfelt messages will be mailed to participating artists, fostering new connections between creators and audiences.

Furthermore, engaging activities will be present at each venue. Photographers will hold live talks, and there will be interactive events designed for families and friends, alongside product test areas showcasing Fujifilm’s offerings. Updates regarding the exhibition will continuously be shared on the official website (https://photo-is.jp).

Sharing Happiness Through Photography

Fujifilm remains committed to enhancing the joy that photographs can bring through various methods: shooting, printing, displaying, and gifting. They aim to expand happiness while illustrating photography's intrinsic value to create smiles and joyful experiences. The ongoing “Photography Happiness Theory” project aligns with this commitment, ensuring that diversified customer needs are met and enhanced products and services are developed.

Exciting Participation Details

The official submission period for artists opens from March 12 to May 20, 2026, with details for each category found on the official website. Notably, the exhibition will take place at various locations:

  • - Tokyo: Tokyo Midtown (July 18-23)
  • - Sendai: Sendai Station area (late August)
  • - Osaka: Grand Front Osaka (September 19-22)
