As the photo exhibition 'Miracles of Gaze: Adventures of Japanese Women Photographers' approaches its closing date, art enthusiasts still have a chance to visit until August 26. Housed in the expansive Hikarie Hall in Shibuya, this exhibition is a unique platform highlighting the contributions of women in photography. The exhibition, which has attracted over 140,000 visitors globally, is a culmination of an international tour that originally began in Arles, France in 2024.

An Unprecedented Collection

This expanded version showcases works from a remarkable selection of 30 artists, including not just well-known names but also fresh talents. Besides the 26 photographers who traveled through Europe and America, four more artists have been added, presenting approximately 200 pieces in total. This exhibition provides a distinctive look at the evolving narrative of women photographers, further broadening the landscape of photographic history.

Within the venue, visitors can experience large-scale installations and video projections, exclusive to the Tokyo exhibition. This is a rare opportunity to witness the diverse 'gazes' from different eras and genres, emphasizing both the personal and universal narratives captured through their lenses.

Adjacent to Hikarie Hall, attendees can check out film screenings related to the exhibition at Bunkamura Le Cinema, including tributes to the notable works on display. Additionally, the MINA cafe has prepared limited edition menus inspired by the works at the exhibition, adding a culinary dimension to the experience.

Shoppers at the museum's gift shop will find exclusive items including photo books and original merchandise from featured photographers like Yuki Tawada and Rinko Kawauchi. And for the adventurous, a stamp rally invites visitors to explore Shibuya while collecting stickers, including a unique acrylic stand inspired by Tawada's 'Family Ritual' series.

Further enriching the experience, a specially designed 'Gaze MAP' details related events and places of interest. Participants in the stamp rally will receive stickers while visiting these cultural link-ups. One of the highlights is the ongoing film series titled 'When the Light Goes Out, Open Your Eyes' screened at the Bunkamura cinema.

Voices of the Artists

Throughout the exhibition, visitors can access compelling videos showcasing interviews with 19 participating artists. Each shares their perspectives on the art industry and their works featured in the event. The first video set is already available, with more to follow, offering a deep dive into their inspirations and thoughts.

Gift shop patrons can receive exclusive stickers with purchases over 1,000 yen. This promotion started on August 7, providing additional incentives for visitors to engage with the merchandise.
