TEDCO Partners with Taiwanese Investors
On November 6, 2025, TEDCO, Maryland's forefront organization for technology-based entrepreneurs, entered into a significant agreement with the APAC Investment and Innovation Development Association of Taiwan (TAIIDA) and SFIC Group. This partnership aims to strengthen Maryland's innovation ecosystem by making available up to $50 million in investment capital.
Governor Wes Moore of Maryland who endorsed the partnership stated, "Maryland has long been asset-rich, but strategy-poor. This partnership underscores the power of our data-backed competitiveness strategy to drive investment, grow our economy, and unlock Maryland's potential." He extended his gratitude to TEDCO and TAIIDA for their commitment to investing in the future of Maryland.
The agreement is multifaceted; it aims not only to secure financial backing for advanced technology startups but also to facilitate international collaboration and resource sharing. TEDCO and its Taiwanese partners will actively seek out opportunities for joint investments in various innovative sectors beneficial to both regions. The focus will include critical industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), deep technology, robotics, and biotechnology, emphasizing the shared interests between Maryland's established sectors and Taiwan's innovative landscape.
Kunlun Lien, chairman of TAIIDA, highlighted that this partnership extends beyond mere financial contributions. He noted, "This partnership is about far more than direct investments in startups; we place greater emphasis on investing in future technology, enhancing talent pipelines, and fostering lasting cross-border collaboration."
The formal signing of this pivotal agreement took place during TEDCO's 2025 Entrepreneur Expo held on October 21, 2025, at The Hotel at the University of Maryland. This expo, which marked its 11th iteration, attracted over 1,100 attendees and provided an invaluable platform for networking, workshops, and discussions aimed at empowering entrepreneurs.
Troy LeMaile-Stovall, CEO of TEDCO, expressed optimism about the impact of this collaboration. He stated, "Many of Maryland's early-stage companies have developed transformative life science technologies that are ripe for international markets. With this agreement in place, we believe entrepreneurs from both Maryland and Taiwan will witness increased growth opportunities."
This initiative also includes the establishment of an International Startup Exchange Center aimed at entrepreneurship support in both Maryland and Taiwan. By focusing on the tech sectors, the partnership not only aims to drive economic growth but also seeks to place Maryland firmly on the global map of technological innovation.
