WoodmenLife Celebrates America's 250th Birthday with National Flag Day Tour

Celebrating America's Heritage: WoodmenLife's Flag Day Initiative

For 80 years, WoodmenLife, a respected organization based in Omaha, has dedicated itself to honoring America by distributing U.S. flags throughout communities. This year, marking a significant milestone in the nation's history—America's 250th birthday—WoodmenLife is embarking on a mission to gift 250 commemorative Betsy Ross flags to various communities just in time for Flag Day on June 14.

WoodmenLife’s commitment to community outreach is steadfast, as evidenced by its impressive record of presenting over 4 million flags since 1947. This initiative positions them as one of the largest suppliers of U.S. flags, second only to the U.S. government. By distributing these flags, WoodmenLife aims to promote patriotism and foster a sense of community across the nation.

The Flag Day Tour

The initiative will kick off on May 11 in South Boston, Virginia, where the first flag will be presented in a ceremonial event alongside notable community leaders and representatives. Following this, the flag will embark on a four-week national tour, stopping at significant sites including:
  • - Wallace, North Carolina
  • - Butler, Pennsylvania
  • - St. Augustine, Florida
  • - Brooksville, Kentucky
  • - Townsend, Tennessee
  • - Union, Tennessee
  • - Holly Springs, Mississippi
  • - El Paso, Texas
  • - Koreatown, Los Angeles
  • - Omaha, Nebraska

Each community on this tour is encouraged to contribute an artifact representing its local history. These items will be encapsulated in a time capsule that WoodmenLife plans to archive in Omaha, to be opened at a future date—making this initiative not only a celebration but a lasting legacy of the nation’s journey.

Commitment to Community

Denise M. McCauley, the President and CEO of WoodmenLife, expressed pride in supporting the communities that contribute to the country's richness. She stated, "WoodmenLife is proud to present 250 of these special commemorative flags to organizations and towns across the country, and to connect with amazing communities to celebrate the richness of our nation."

This project symbolizes more than just a distribution of flags; it reflects WoodmenLife's broader mission to build connections within communities across America. As they distribute these flags, they emphasize the importance of remembering the hardworking individuals who shaped the nation and continue to fortify it today.
