Sota Matsumoto: A Voice for Youth as UNESCO Chair Youth Ambassador



On April 1, 2026, Sota Matsumoto, a proud alumnus of Okayama University and currently working with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) office in Ukraine, was appointed as the UNESCO Chair Youth Ambassador for Okayama University. This marks him as the third person from the university to hold this esteemed position, and he is only the second Japanese national to be appointed.

The formal appointment ceremony took place on April 27 during Matsumoto's temporary return to Japan, where he received an official certificate from President Yasu Tomo Nasu. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Atsufumi Yokoi, who is in charge of global engagement.

Since his time at Okayama University, Matsumoto has been actively involved in international cooperation and the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During a visit to President Nasu, Matsumoto shared insights about the current situation in Ukraine and discussed his ongoing work there.
